Isotronic marten deterrent buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have found droppings in a car on a British drive, or claw marks on a downpipe, and the amazon.co.uk titles say marten. This Isotronic marten deterrent buying guide asks which animal you have, whether the job is a loom or a pipe, how the unit is powered, and what a star line may prove. Britain's marten is the protected pine marten. The driveway problem is usually mice or rats. A printed 40 m² or 60 m² figure is the seller's claim, not a measurement under a bonnet. The five listings in the [Isotronic marten deterrent comparison](/hub/pest-control/isotronic-marten-deterrent) are the only products used here. We did not run a lab test. Species and place

Continental sellers talk about stone martens in engine bays. In Britain the marten you might meet is the pine marten, and NatureScot treats it as fully protected under Schedule 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Droppings or chewed tape in a car you drive is a rodent job. A den in a roof, a bat roost or a hazel dormouse nest is not a shopping decision. Stop and use the pine marten deterrent UK law page before you switch anything on. An engine bay, a loft and a downpipe are different jobs. The 78440 listing names mouse and rat while the title says marten. Model 78580 and the vibration LED box also mention dormice. A dormouse line on a listing is not a method you may use.

Box or belt

Ultrasound does not cap a pipe, and a spiked belt does not guard a wiring loom. The boxes are 78440 at about £25.61, 78580 at about £32.45, the LED vibration box at about £31.18 and the AAA twin pack at about £45.28. Model 84025 is two V2A stainless strips at about £17.92. Those are captured shelf prices, not a ranking. Do not buy the belt on a seller's line that about 90 percent of animals use the downpipe. That percentage was not measured here. The belt matches a climb on a downpipe, gutter or tree, and a tree of 50 cm circumference or more needs extra strips. UK reviews disagree: one buyer found it useful against cats after shaping the bands first, and called assembly fiddly; another called it useless. End caps do not make injury to a cat impossible. Mice in the bay are not stopped by steel on a drainpipe. The best Isotronic marten deterrent page sorts the parked-car choice.

Power and what you might hear

Power is not a quality score. Model 78440 takes 12 V, with a vibration cut-out and a grey lead to terminal 15 so it can run with the ignition off. The sheet quotes about 5 mA and still says to disconnect the module if the car will sit. A boot battery is a poor match for a lead of about 100 cm. The 12 V or battery page holds that fork. Cells suit a car you will not wire. The vibration LED states a cut-out, but UK reviews say the screws are too small, and one buyer still had nightly mouse visits. The twin pack uses six AAA cells, claims about eight months, and a UK review says one unit was dead. Model 78580 offers four AA cells or a car lead. Its UK bullets do not mention a vibration sensor, while a separate manual does, and that manual's indoor area does not match the UK listing's 40 m². The 78440 sheet cites 12–23 kHz and the LED boxes 12–24 kHz. Some people hear a whistle. Do not put a unit in a loft that might hold bats.

What the listing is allowed to prove

A star line is that amazon.co.uk listing, not a clearance rate. Captured lines are 4.1 from 140 on 78440, 3.8 from 320 on 78580, 3.6 from 183 on the vibration LED, 3.8 from 140 on the pair, and 4.0 from 47 on the belt. The largest count does not beat a higher average. The UK review on 78580 said rats and squirrels were still there after more than a week. The 78440 notes have no UK review text. The Advertising Standards Authority does not treat testimonials as an efficacy claim. Rentokil's UK notes describe habituation and weak coverage, so a changing-frequency bullet stays a marketing sentence. A live snapshot of B07JB9R98D on 21 October 2026 showed £25.30 against the captured £25.61. A two-piece 78440, ASIN B07J69JWVY, is not one of these five. Chewed cables, or an unnamed terminal 15, are a garage job.

Common questions

Is an Isotronic marten deterrent for stone martens or for mice in a UK car?
The titles are written around martens, and continental engine-bay damage is associated with stone martens. On a UK drive the usual animal in the bay is a mouse or a rat, and the 78440 listing's target field says mouse and rat. Britain's pine marten is protected, not the pest those titles assume. Buy for the animal you can identify.
When is the spiked belt the right buy, and when is it useless?
Model 84025 fits a climb on a downpipe, gutter or tree, and a trunk of 50 cm around or more needs more strips. It does nothing for cables under a bonnet, and end caps do not remove the risk to a cat.
What does a 40 m² or 60 m² claim mean under a bonnet?
It is the figure printed on that listing. The 78440, 78580 and the twin pack say 40 m². The vibration LED says 60 m². A separate 78580 manual says about 60 m² indoors, which is not the UK bullet. None of those numbers was measured in an engine bay for this guide. Mats and metal get in the way of high-frequency sound.
Will I hear 12–24 kHz?
You might. The 78440 sheet cites 12–23 kHz, about 80 dB, and a cycle of about 15 seconds on and 15 seconds off. The LED boxes cite 12–24 kHz. The lower end of that range is not pure ultrasound. One review of the 78440 mentions a whistle some people hear. Do not assume the drive, or a child nearby, will hear nothing.
Does 4.1 from 140 reviews prove the bay will clear?
No. That line is the amazon.co.uk average for B07JB9R98D only. The Advertising Standards Authority does not accept testimonials as proof a pest repellent works, and the notes for that listing have no UK review text.
Which power suits a daily driver, a stored car, or a boot battery?
A car you drive, and that you or a garage can wire, is the situation the 78440 ignition cut-out is described for. Disconnect it if the car will sit for weeks. A battery in the boot on a short lead is a poor match. Cells, including the AA option on 78580, avoid the loom.
