Men's dungarees buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are looking at men's dungarees on amazon.co.uk from about £12.37 to £39.99, and the titles swap dungarees, bib and brace, and overalls for one sleeveless garment. A men's dungarees buying guide puts the checks in a fixed order: the job, a fabric you can name, the knee system, waist and leg, then pockets and straps. The [men's dungarees comparison](/hub/occupational-safety/mens-dungarees) ranks the eight listings. Who each one is for is on [best men's dungarees](/hub/occupational-safety/mens-dungarees/sub/mens-dungarees-best). The Products Compared editorial team used the amazon.co.uk captures and public UK sources on 20 October 2026, not a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Dungarees, bib and brace, and overalls

On a UK site, dungarees, bib and brace, and overalls usually mean the same work idea: a front bib, two shoulder straps, and full-length legs, worn over a top you already own. RS separates fashion dungarees from that work version. A coverall or boiler suit is different because the sleeves are part of the suit. Every kept listing in this capture is a bib, including titles that also say coverall. Mazalat (B079CHJQY6, about £27.99) says protective coverall, and the comparison still lists it as a work bib and brace. Sleeves are on dungarees vs coveralls.

Job first, then the standard

Start with what can hurt you, not with the cloth. Dirt on your own clothes, brush painting, garden work, and light site work can be ordinary workwear. Spray, chemicals, flame, or work around moving vehicles needs a stated protective standard, often on a coverall or a separate high-visibility layer. HSE's priced guidance L25 says the 1992 PPE regulations do not apply to ordinary working clothes that do not specifically protect the wearer. Where clothing protects against a specific risk, the employer provides it. None of the eight pages states EN ISO 20471, EN 14404, or EN ISO 13688. BS EN ISO 13688 is general clothing requirements only, not a protection class. Protective on the Mazalat title, and heavy duty on the unbranded black bib (B07S43HFB4, about £38.99), do not fill that gap.

Fabric you can name

If the listing never states fibre or weight, treat heavy duty as a claim. Do not paste 280–320 gsm onto a title that never gives a weight. Portwest TX12 (B00FC02NY4, about £25.30, 4.3 from 2,048) has knee-pad pockets and no material line. One Mazalat review, in a file of 4.1 from 6,206, calls the cloth medium-weight poly/cotton. That is a review, not a specification. Denim is named on both Enzo lines at about £23.99 and on MANYMANY at about £12.37, where UK reviews call the cloth very thin. Gheri (about £39.99) is cotton a UK review calls lighter than denim. Runcati says denim and gives no weight.

Knees, size, pockets, straps

Only the TX12 and the unbranded black bib mention knee-pad pockets, and neither says the pads are included. The other six, including Mazalat, are silent. A foam pad you already own does not create a certificate. EN 14404-3:2024 and EN 14404-4:2024 are explained on dungarees with knee pad pockets. These listings mix S–3XL with waist inches from 30 to 50. Enzo prints 30–50 inches, and a usual 36-inch waist felt tight. Mazalat prints S–3XL, and UK reviews still call the legs very long. Straps lift the bib. They do not shorten an inside leg. A tailor can take up a hem and cannot add a missing standard.

What this amazon.co.uk set can and cannot tell you

The shelf band runs from MANYMANY at about £12.37 to Gheri and Runcati at about £39.99. Under £20 you are looking at thin denim and a 2.6 from 26 UK-marked reviews, with studs that failed as the packet opened. Between £20 and £30 you get the two Enzo denim lines, TX12 at about £25.30, and Mazalat at about £27.99. From £31 to £40 you get the unbranded knee-pocket bib, Runcati, and Gheri. That is a price map of these eight pages, not a market survey. Leave the set when the job needs a standard none of them prints.

Common questions

Are men's dungarees the same as bib and brace overalls?
On UK workwear pages they are the same sleeveless idea: a bib, straps, and legs, worn over your own top. Dungarees is the word amazon.co.uk shoppers type. Bib and brace is the trade name. Fashion dungarees use the same pattern and are not a work specification.
When is a dungaree the wrong garment?
It is the wrong garment when the hazard needs protection the cloth was never stated to give. Spray, chemicals, flame, and work near moving vehicles need a stated standard, often with sleeves or a separate high-visibility layer. None of these eight listings states that standard.
What fabric should the listing actually name?
A fibre, and a weight if the seller has one. One Mazalat review says poly/cotton. A details page later printed 65% polyester and 35% cotton at 240 g, and that line was not in this capture. Heavy duty without a fibre is a slogan.
Does heavy duty or protective on the title mean a standard?
No. A rank in Men's dungarees does not add EN ISO 20471 or EN 14404. If the label, the UKCA or CE mark, and the declaration are missing, do not treat the title as PPE.
Do I need knee-pad pockets for garden and light site work?
You need a pocket if you want somewhere to put a pad you already accept is not certified. You need a named EN 14404 combination if the risk assessment requires kneeling protection. Neither title that mentions the pocket says the pads are in the box.
Why do amazon.co.uk bibs mix waist inches with S–3XL?
Because the set mixes denim fashion cuts with work bibs. Enzo and 989Zé ENZO print waist 30–50 inches. Mazalat prints S–3XL. Portwest reviews talk about extra small to XL with no chart stored. Your jeans size is a starting guess, and the denim reviews say that guess runs tight.
