How to choose an FFP2 mask sold as made in Germany

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are on amazon.co.uk with a title that says FFP2 and made in Germany, and the shelf prices in this set run from about £12.68 to about £28.95 on 20 October 2026. Before the brand, you need the class on the product, a conformity mark you can see, and a strap that can hold a seal. A Germany line is a separate sentence from that check. This page, from the Products Compared editorial team, uses Health and Safety Executive guidance and the blanks in our [German-made FFP2 masks](/hub/medical-protection/german-made-ffp2-masks) comparison. The class numbers sit on [FFP2 vs FFP3](/hub/medical-protection/german-made-ffp2-masks/sub/german-made-ffp2-masks-ffp2-vs-ffp3). A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What has to be on the mask

On the mask or the box you want FFP2, EN 149:2001+A1:2009, NR or R if the maker prints it, and UKCA or CE. NR means not reusable: about one shift, then you bin it. If NR or R is not printed, do not invent one. GOV.UK allows UKCA or CE for PPE on the Great Britain market. Northern Ireland stays on the CE or UKNI route. A title that only says FFP2 is weaker than those marks on the product. The LK title prints CE GEPTEST 2233. That is a claim until you see the number on the mask. The about £13.84 DM LK title says fish shape and 100% made in Germany. It does not state a standard line or a pack count.

Origin, OEKO-TEX, and a body number

Made in Germany is a listing sentence. It is not the test that EN 149 describes, and it does not replace UKCA or CE. One review on the LK file says the mask was made in China and certified in Germany. Do not treat either side as settled from the review alone. OEKO-TEX on the DM LK title is a textile label. It does not tell you the filter class or whether the mask is NR. The 3M 8822 three-piece file is the only listing here that states country of origin Germany in the specification block. The 10-pack, at about £25.14, does not. If the date on the box has passed, do not use the mask up.

Ear loops, head straps, and a valve

HSE does not recommend ear-loop masks, including ones with tighteners, as tight-fitting respiratory protective equipment at work, even with CE or UKCA. A home mask still follows its own instructions. Knotting the loops does not turn them into head straps. Kela prints an ear loop in the title. The DM LK titles do not state a strap. The 3M three-piece file states twin straps and a cool-flow valve. NHS England’s 2021 alert says exhalation valves do not filter exhaled breath. The 10-pack specification does not state a valve. Do not copy the valve across. Putting the mask on is on how to fit an FFP2 mask.

Pack count and two ASINs

Divide the price only when the listing states the count. Three masks at about £12.68 is about £4.23 each. Ten at about £25.14 is about £2.51 each. Every fish-shape file leaves pack size blank, so an about £13.84 shelf price cannot be turned into a price per mask. The two DM LK prices share a title and details ASIN B0HM9QCRVK. Three kela URLs share details ASIN B0FB3N7VP1. The LK shop ASIN does not match details ASIN B0GDGRN3WF. Read the ASIN in the address bar. Do not average the prices into one product.

Common questions

Is made in Germany the certification?
No. Made in Germany is an origin line on the listing. The certification marks HSE and GOV.UK point you to are the class, EN 149:2001+A1:2009, and UKCA or CE on the product, with NR or R if printed. A review on the LK file even disputes the origin and says the mask was made in China and certified in Germany. That sentence is a dispute, not a new certificate.
What should be printed on the mask itself?
Look for FFP2, the EN 149 year line, the maker and model, NR or R when the maker uses them, and UKCA or CE with the body number. A title can advertise those words and still ship a mask that does not show them. In this set the LK title is the only one that prints a body number, and you still need to see it on the mask rather than only in the headline.
Can I use UKCA or CE?
Yes on the Great Britain market. GOV.UK’s sector table allows either UKCA or CE for PPE, with recognition in force from 1 October 2024. If you are in Northern Ireland, the route remains CE or UKNI. A mark in a product title is not a substitute for the mark on the mask and for instructions you can read in English.
Are ear loops enough?
HSE does not recommend ear-loop respirators, including models with tighteners, as tight-fitting respiratory protective equipment at work, even with a CE or UKCA mark. At home you follow the instructions for that mask. The kela titles state an ear loop. The 3M three-piece file states twin straps. The DM LK listings do not state a strap, so you cannot assume loops or a head harness.
Does a valve protect other people?
No. A valve can let heat and moisture out for the wearer. It does not filter exhaled breath. NHS England’s 2021 alert makes that point for valved respirators used in surgery, and the same limit applies if you are thinking of a valved FFP2 as a way to protect someone else in the room. The three-piece listing states a cool-flow valve. The 10-pack listing does not.
Why are two prices attached to one title?
Because two shop URLs can share a title and a details ASIN. The DM LK fish-shape title is about £13.84 on one URL and about £23.38 on another, both pointing at details ASIN B0HM9QCRVK. The kela ear-loop title is about £24.95 on two URLs and about £28.95 on a third. Read the ASIN in the address bar. Do not average the prices into one product.
