Makita hedge trimmer bare tool or kit

Updated: October 2026

The button says about £59.99 or about £74.99, and the title says the battery is not included. This page settles the Makita hedge trimmer bare tool or kit fork: a saving if you already own a pack, or a housing with the battery still to buy. The ten prices are on the [Makita hedge trimmer comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/makita-hedge-trimmer). Length and opening are a different question. Peter F. used amazon.co.uk listings in October 2026. No street price for a BL1830 is invented here. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What the suffix and the title are telling you

On the DUH523Z sheet, the tool is sold on its own. Battery and charger are not included. Net weight is 2.7 kg, and about 3.0 to 3.4 kg with a battery fitted. That Z model is a real bare Makita, and it is not one of the ten rows here, so no price from it is copied onto this set. The listing says non-genuine batteries and chargers invalidate the Makita guarantee on Makita tools. That sentence is about packs in a Makita machine. In this set, one title names a battery. The DUH523RF is about £199.41, and the title includes a 3.0 Ah Li-ion battery. The spec block does not itemise a charger. Only this title is the evidence for a 3.0 Ah pack. Blade length and opening are a separate decision, on the buying guide.

When a bare tool is the cheaper buy

A bare tool is the cheaper buy when the pack and the charger are already on the shelf. If you own LXT packs such as a BL1850, paying about £199.41 for another 3.0 Ah battery is paying twice. The best-value row for that reader is the KIESBOHR CSL502 at about £74.99: a 51 cm bar at 2 kg, no battery, G-series excluded, and 4.6 from 261 ratings of its own. One review treats it as a backup rather than a Makita. The 12-month warranty in the bullets is the seller's. The OHAISFELA 52 cm listing at about £59.99 is also bare, at 4.6 from 155 ratings. The 58 cm OHAISFELA at about £68.99 prints the same count and the same review text. Adding 155 and 155 would pretend there were 310 buyers. One UK review says the buyer had thought the tool was Makita. Who should skip each pick is on the best page.

When the kit is the honest price

If you own no LXT pack and no charger, the about £59.99 and about £74.99 buttons are the trimmer only. A first battery and charger might close the gap to about £199.41, or pass it. There is no current price here for a BL1830 or a DC18RC, so that sum is not invented. The DUH523RF title is the row that names a 3.0 Ah battery, at about £199.41, with 4.7 from 1,254 ratings. The spec block still does not list a charger. Nine of the ten tools are bare. The Bekasa shear at about £33.24 is the lowest price kept here, still without a battery, at 3.6 from 26 ratings. Once you own the tool, oil and the cut are on the how to use page.

Packs that will not complete the kit

LXT 18 V slide packs are the system on the DUH and DUN sheets. XGT 40 V max packs do not fit. G-series packs use another connector, and KIESBOHR bullets on the CSL502, the CSL303 and the CSL401 say they do not fit. Buying a G-series pack to finish a bar at about £74.99 leaves you with two things that do not couple. The Bekasa page names Makita 18 V and also says 24 V Max. Those lines are a conflict, not a second system. The STEEIRO at about £49.99 names BL1830 and BL1830B and is still sold without a battery. A non-genuine pack in a genuine Makita is the guarantee point on the DUH523Z listing. A non-genuine trimmer with your genuine LXT pack is a different risk: the warranty, if any, is the seller's. If your only packs are XGT or G-series, none of the bare prices here is a finished kit.

Common questions

Does the DUH523RF listing include a battery?
The title includes a 3.0 Ah Li-ion battery, and the price is about £199.41. The spec block does not add a charger line. A charger in a non-UK review is not treated as the UK contents list. Other suffix codes are not assumed to mean a 3.0 Ah kit. Only this title says 3.0 Ah.
Is a £60 bare tool the cheaper way to start from nothing?
Only the housing is about £59.99. The OHAISFELA 52 cm row includes no battery, and its 155 ratings are shared with the 58 cm listing. A first pack and charger are extra, and their prices are not in this set, so they are not added up here. From nothing, the DUH523RF at about £199.41 is the row that names a battery.
Will a non-genuine battery void a Makita tool's guarantee?
The DUH523Z text on amazon.co.uk says non-genuine batteries and chargers invalidate the Makita guarantee on Makita tools. That is about a Makita machine. A KIESBOHR or OHAISFELA does not inherit that guarantee if you fit a genuine pack. Where a listing states a warranty, it is the seller's, such as the 12 months on the CSL502 bullets.
Do G-series or 40 V packs run these bare tools?
XGT 40 V max packs do not fit the LXT slide. KIESBOHR's bullets say G-series packs do not fit the CSL502, the CSL303 or the CSL401. The Bekasa page names Makita 18 V and also says 24 V Max, which is a conflict, not a second system. If your packs are the wrong family, a bare price does not complete a kit.
Does the kit price include a charger?
The DUH523RF title includes a 3.0 Ah battery and does not itemise a charger. A dealer bundle of tool, BL1830 and DC18RC is a different offer from this listing. The nine bare rows include neither a battery nor a charger. If you need both, treat the charger as unknown rather than assuming it is inside the about £199.41.
