Makita hedge trimmer bare tool or kit

Updated: October 2026

The price on the screen runs from about £49.99 to about £199.41, and one title in this amazon.co.uk set mentions a battery. A Makita hedge trimmer bare tool or kit is a carton question before it is a blade question: six of the seven kept listings ship as a body, and the seventh, the DUH523RF, names a 3.0 Ah pack in the title while the bullets never list a charger. Shelf prices are on the [Makita cordless hedge trimmer comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/makita-cordless-hedge-trimmer). Peter F. read the listings and the DUH523 manual on 22 October 2026. What the seven prices leave out

The STEEIRO, both OHAISFELA bodies, the Roadtime, the CSL502 and the CSL401 pole all omit the battery. Several also say the charger is not included. None of the box lines includes a BL pack. About £49.99 and about £59.99 are body prices. Add a pack, and a charger if you do not already have a Makita dock. The Makita DUH523RF at about £199.41 is the awkward seventh. The title says it includes a 3.0 Ah Li-ion battery. The bullets do not list a charger or a contents line. Reviews go both ways: some mention a charger, and some report the battery or the charger missing. The listing also says international products may differ in labelling, so the title and the parcel can diverge. Check the seller's contents before you treat about £199.41 as a complete kit. Which body suits the hedge is on the buying guide.

Which pack the listings name

The packs these pages actually name are the LXT slide family, written as BL codes. The 52 cm OHAISFELA bullets list BL1820 through BL1860, including the B variants. The 58 cm OHAISFELA names BL1820B through BL1860B. The DUH523 manual lists BL1815N and BL1820B through BL1860B for that Makita model. G-series is a different battery shape. Only the CSL502 and the CSL401 print that they are not for G-series packs. STEEIRO, both OHAISFELA rows and the Roadtime do not print that exclusion. If the pack in your hand is G-series, the KIESBOHR lines tell you to stop. Do not fill that silence with a guess. A G-series pack is the wrong family even before you ask about a third-party body.

What Makita writes about the pack

The DUH523 instruction manual tells you to use the specified cartridges and warns that other cartridges may cause injury or fire. Point 12 is about putting an unspecified product on a Makita battery system. It is not a review of the KIESBOHR or the OHAISFELA. This page will not say a compatible body will catch fire, and it will not say the fit is safe. The reviews do not overrule the manual. Makita's notice of 10 January 2020 is a second warning. It is about non-genuine compatible batteries used in Makita tools: warranty void, and a risk that a fake pack may burst. That notice is fake packs inside a Makita tool. A genuine BL1850B on a CSL502 is the manual's point 12. UK reviewers report that their own Makita packs ran. A running pack is a user's report. It is not Makita specifying that body. Who should still buy which body is on the best page.

What a working basket still costs

Price the basket as body plus whatever you do not already own. If a BL1830B or BL1850B and a charger are on the shelf, the bare rows from about £49.99 to about £94.99 are the incremental cost of the cutter. If you own no Makita pack, a charger and at least one BL pack sit outside every bare title. Reviews also dispute the DUH523RF title's 3.0 Ah claim. Choosing 52 cm or 58 cm does not change the missing battery. The pole is bare as well. The tall hedges page is where the CSL401's reach is judged. Here the pole only confirms that about £94.99 still needs a pack that is not G-series. Buy the body when the pack is already yours and you have read the manual's limit. Buy a stated kit, and confirm the charger in writing, when you are starting from an empty shed.

Common questions

Which of these seven is actually a kit?
Six are bare bodies: the STEEIRO, both OHAISFELA trimmers, the Roadtime, the CSL502 and the CSL401 pole. The DUH523RF title names a 3.0 Ah pack, so it is the only row that presents itself as more than a body. Because reviews conflict and the bullets omit a charger, treat that title as a claim to verify, not as a confirmed kit.
Does the DUH523RF include a charger?
The bullets do not list one. Some reviews mention a charger and others say the battery or the charger was missing. The listing also warns that international stock may differ in what arrives. Read the seller's contents line, and assume you may still need the charger you already use for your other LXT packs.
I own a G-series pack. Will it fit?
The CSL502 and the CSL401 say they are not for G-series packs, so those two rows are a no on the seller's own page. STEEIRO, both OHAISFELA listings and the Roadtime do not mention G-series at all. Silence is not a fit. Use a BL pack the listing actually names.
I own a BL1850B. Will it fit a compatible body?
The 58 cm OHAISFELA names BL1850B, and the 52 cm OHAISFELA lists BL1820 to BL1860, including B variants. UK reviewers report Makita packs running on those bodies. The DUH523 manual still says to use Makita packs only in products Makita specifies. A click-in can still sit outside that instruction.
Does Makita allow a genuine pack in these other tools?
The DUH523 manual says other cartridges may cause injury or fire, and point 12 warns about non-compliant products. Makita has not, in the sources used here, approved the STEEIRO, OHAISFELA, Roadtime or KIESBOHR bodies. You can weigh a reported fit against the manual. You should not treat the fit as permission.
Are counterfeit batteries the same issue as a third-party trimmer?
They are two warnings. Makita's 10 January 2020 notice is about fake compatible batteries used in Makita tools, with the warranty void and a burst risk. The DUH523 manual's point 12 is about non-compliant products on the battery system, which is the live issue when a genuine BL pack is fitted to a KIESBOHR or an OHAISFELA.
