Gardena cylinder mower buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You already want a Gardena, and the four amazon.co.uk listings do not tell the same story about the box or the cut. This Gardena cylinder mower buying guide puts the choices in order: confirm it is a hand reel, then match the width to the lawn, then decide whether a grass box is in the carton, and only then read the star line. Prices and the rows that contradict themselves are on the [Gardena lawn mower comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/gardena-lawn-mower), from listings read on 22 October 2026. Peter F. set those files beside Gardena’s UK cylinder pages and the RHS mowing guide. Nobody here ran a timed cut. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What these four listings actually are

All four kept products are manual cylinder mowers. A reel shears the grass against a fixed blade, and you are the motor. The Comfort 330 and the Plus 400 both carry the word cordless in the title. On these pages that word means there is no cable. The power-source line is hand powered. The Comfort 330 (11750-20) and the Classic 330 (04027-20) are 33 cm. The Classic 400 (04018-88) and the Plus 400 (11765-20) are 40 cm. A long or lumpy lawn belongs on the cylinder mower vs rotary page.

Width and the maker’s area

The two 33 cm models, Comfort 330 and Classic 330, are titled for lawns up to 150 m². Gardena’s UK page for the Classic 330 adds a tolerance of about 20 m² either way and states 8.2 kg. One UK review of the Comfort 330 calls 33 cm slow once the lawn is above about 25 to 50 m². The Classic 400 title says up to 200 m² at 40 cm. The Plus 400 comparison row says up to 250 m², which is also the figure on Gardena’s UK page for that width. How a small front strip sits against those figures is the Gardena mower for a small lawn page.

Grass box in the carton or on a second page

Only the Plus 400 style line says the grass catcher is included. The Comfort 330 style name is modern design without a grass catcher, and the Classic 330 style name is classic design without a grass catcher. One Comfort buyer put a separate catcher at about £46. On the Classic 330, one buyer who fitted a catcher afterwards still said the grass went everywhere. The Classic 400 file does not say a basket is included, and a UK review asks whether there is one. Gardena’s UK catcher page for article 11770-20 describes a basket of up to 49 litres. The UK Classic 330 page points at a separate catcher, article 4029-20.

Numbers you should not quote

The Comfort 330 height row agrees with itself: 12 mm to 42 mm in four positions. The Classic 400 amazon row prints the same band. Its weight cell says 37 g, and its dimensions say 22 × 14 × 47 cm. The Classic 330 spec row prints a minimum of 12 mm and a maximum of 16 cm across four positions, so the comparison leaves the height as n/a. The same file prints a weight of 400 g. The Plus 400 spec row prints 0.04 mm and one position.

When a cylinder is the wrong Gardena

A reel in this set is for grass you already keep short, on ground that is fairly even. Gardena’s 2016 instruction for articles 4018, 4022 and 4027 says grass longer than about 12 cm is outside a clean cut. UK reviews of the Classic 330 say the cylinder clogs when the lawn is not short and flat. This page does not price a PowerMax, because none of those models is an ASIN in the capture.

Common questions

Which of the four listings includes a grass box?
Only the Plus 400 style line says a grass catcher is included, at about £139.00. The Comfort 330 and the Classic 330 are both sold as without a grass catcher. The Classic 400 file does not name a basket in the included line, and a UK review asks whether one is there. Gardena’s article 11770-20 is a separate basket of up to 49 litres.
Does cordless mean a battery is included?
No. On the Comfort 330 and the Plus 400, cordless means there is no cable. The power-source line is hand powered. You push the reel. There is no 18 V pack and no charger in these cartons. A PowerMax sold as Solo is a different machine, and that word means the battery is a second purchase.
Is 33 cm enough, or do I need 40 cm?
The Comfort 330 and the Classic 330 are 33 cm, with a maker guide of up to 150 m². The Classic 400 title says up to 200 m² at 40 cm, and the Plus 400 row says up to 250 m². One UK Comfort review calls 33 cm slow above about 25 to 50 m². Forty centimetres is still a push mower, not a powered rotary.
Why does one listing say the mower weighs 400 g?
The Classic 330 amazon row prints 400 g, and the Classic 400 row prints 37 g. Neither figure is a credible weight for these mowers. Gardena’s UK page for the Classic 330 states 8.2 kg, which matches the Comfort 330 listing. Use 8.2 kg when you need a weight for the 33 cm Classic.
Can I trust 16 cm or 0.04 mm as a cutting height?
No. The Classic 330 row prints a 12 mm minimum and a 16 cm maximum, which do not agree, so the comparison leaves that height as n/a. The Plus 400 row prints 0.04 mm and one position, which is not a setting. Gardena’s UK pages state 12–42 mm for these cylinders. Quote a height only when the row agrees with itself.
