Underfloor heating foil under laminate

Updated: October 2026

You are about to click a laminate or engineered-wood floor over a cold subfloor, and you need the heater that those boards are allowed to cover. Underfloor heating foil under laminate, in this set, means the finish printed on the listing you buy, then the limit your own board maker prints for that product. Carpet rules and tile rules from other systems do not transfer. The [electric underfloor heating foil comparison](/hub/heating/underfloor-heating-foil) holds the nine amazon.co.uk listings. What Adept names

Adept’s kept listings name laminate or engineered wood, on concrete or wood floors. They do not name carpet, and they do not name tiles. Carpet or tile is the wrong shortlist. Output on these Adept kits is stated at 140 W/m². That figure does not mean every laminate is safe at it. The board maker’s limit is the second check. The underfloor heating foil buying guide keeps the supply split in front of the finish, so a camper line never becomes a lounge specification.

What Minco names

Minco’s films name laminates, click laminates, wood floors, and vinyl, and they do not name carpet. If your boards are sold as click laminate, Minco is the listing that uses those words. Adept says laminate or engineered wood without the word click. Minco has no star line here and no thermostat stated, so a named finish is not by itself a reason to prefer the loose film. Minco adds plus or minus 10% on the 140 W/m² figure. The 12 V film’s carpet line does not clear an Adept house mat.

What a different brand adds

Warmup’s own foil page allows laminate and engineered wood, does not recommend wood thicker than 18 mm for that brand, warns that metallic locking strips may damage the foil, and sends vinyl and carpet to that brand’s Dual Overlay. No kept Adept listing states 18 mm or names Dual Overlay. Cite 18 mm only as Warmup’s limit for Warmup, then read the maker of the boards you are buying. Approved Document L, the 2021 edition with the amendments in force for this set, treats heat loss through the floor finish as part of the downward-loss sum for ground floors. Insulation and the laying order sit on the how to install foil underfloor heating page.

What one install used

A UK review of the Adept dial kit, B017T2NZE4, dated 13 December 2023, describes effective heat under LVT laminate in a bathroom and a bedroom. The reviewer used 2 mm red underlay, called it suitable for heating mats, and said earthing has to be checked with a test meter. That LVT is one floating finish on one kit. It is not a clearance for every LVT, and it does not add carpet to Adept’s list. The 2 mm layer is the reviewer’s choice. A separate underlay quoted at a TOG of 0.35 was removed from an earlier shortlist. It is not the heater. A thick, high-tog underlay can leave the warmth below the surface you walk on. Get the floor-probe details before the laminate locks the tube in.

Common questions

Can this foil go under click laminate?
Minco’s listings name click laminates, along with laminates, wood floors, and vinyl. Adept’s bullets say laminate or engineered wood and do not use the word click. If your boards are a click system, Minco is the row that prints that phrase, and you still need the board maker to allow electric underfloor heating. A metal locking strip is a separate risk on Warmup’s own foil page, so ask before you assume every click joint is harmless to the foil.
Can it go under carpet?
Adept’s listings in this set do not name carpet. Minco does not name carpet either. The 12 V film does name carpet, for floating coverings in a vehicle, and that line does not clear an Adept house mat. Warmup allows carpet on its own heater only with that brand’s overlay. Copying either sentence onto Adept goes beyond what Adept printed. If the finish is carpet, choose a heater whose listing names carpet.
Can it go under tiles?
Tiles are not named on the Adept rows in this set, and they are not named on the Minco films. This foil is not described as a cable you bury in screed. A tile specification from a screed heater does not become permission for these mats. If you are tiling, you need a system whose listing names tile, which these nine rows do not.
What did a UK reviewer put over an Adept mat?
A review dated 13 December 2023, on the dial kit B017T2NZE4, describes LVT laminate in a bathroom and a bedroom, over 2 mm red underlay the reviewer called suitable for heating mats. The same review says the earth path has to be checked with a test meter. That is one UK install. It does not set 2 mm as Adept’s stated build-up, and it does not add carpet to Adept’s floor list.
How thick can the wood be?
No kept Adept listing states a maximum board thickness. Warmup does not recommend wood thicker than 18 mm for its own foil heater. Use 18 mm only as Warmup’s limit for Warmup, then read the limit printed by the maker of your engineered boards or laminate. A thicker decorative floor can also add to the downward heat loss that Approved Document L puts in the ground-floor sum.
Does the underlay block the heat?
It can, if the underlay is a thermal barrier rather than a layer sold for heating mats. The December 2023 Adept reviewer used 2 mm and reported effective heat under LVT. A removed underlay quoted at TOG 0.35 is not in this product table and is not the heater. Follow the underlay maker’s own wording for electric underfloor heating. A high-tog layer under laminate is a way to keep the heat below the floor you walk on.
