Round mirror heater vs rectangular

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have one clear wall and two shapes in the search results: a circle about 850 mm across, or a rectangle at 800 × 600 mm or 1200 × 600 mm. Round versus rectangular is a layout decision. The heat is still electric and radiant either way. This page matches the glass to the basin and the wall width. The four prices are on the [infrared mirror heater comparison](/hub/heating/infrared-mirror-heater). Peter F. used the amazon.co.uk sizes and weights in this batch, not a tape measure of a showroom sample. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

When a round mirror wins

A round panel wins when the wall is narrow, the basin is a single bowl, and you want the mirror centred. Both rounds are described around 850 mm. The Radi8 round, B0DXLJFJR8, is £250.00, model MH850M320, 15 kg, with item dimensions 1.2 × 85 × 85 cm. The Mirrorstone round, B0C8V7BNK4, is £282.99, dimensions 1.1 × 85 × 85 cm. An 850 mm circle needs a clear patch a little wider than the glass, so a 900 mm cloakroom wall is plausible and a 700 mm pier is not. The round shape does not fix the watt conflict. Both titles say 320 W. Radi8’s heat-output field says 580 W. Mirrorstone’s bullet says 580 W and about 9–10 square metres, and it lists wall mounting beside a floor-standing line. Choose round when the pier is near 850 mm and you have checked the plate. Leave it if the wall is a long vanity.

When a rectangle wins

A rectangle wins when the basin run is horizontal and you want your reflection lined up with the taps. The Radi8 450 W rectangle, B0DXLHYMCJ, is about 800 × 600 mm, £285.00 and 12.3 kg, with watt lines that agree. That width is close to a single basin. The Radi8 700 W rectangle, B0DXLJYBQ2, is 1200 × 600 mm, £349.99 and 17.8 kg. Two basins, or one long trough, are the layout that uses that width. A 1200 mm glass on a 900 mm wall will not fit. Height is 600 mm on both rectangles, against an 850 mm round, so the rectangle sits lower and wider. That often suits a splashback. It can look short if you are used to a tall portrait mirror. The watt band itself is in the infrared mirror heater buying guide.

Weight and how you fix them

A circle wants fixings inside a round footprint, often with a different hole layout from a rectangle’s corners. Radi8’s round is 15 kg, the 450 W rectangle is 12.3 kg, and the 700 W rectangle is 17.8 kg. Mirrorstone’s amazon.co.uk row prints 2.6 kg, while the maker’s UK spec sheet for the 850 mm 320 W round quotes about 10 kg. Confirm that gap before you buy anchors. A 17.8 kg rectangle on ordinary plasterboard plugs is a bad idea, and a 15 kg round is not much kinder. Masonry, noggins or rated anchors should match the carton weight. On tile, mark the holes from the template for the shape you bought. None of these files is a plug-in mirror. The electrician still has to land a cable outside zone 1.

Sight lines and a simple decision

From the doorway, a round mirror reads as a single object. A rectangle reads as part of the basin run and looks odd if it is much wider or narrower than the worktop. Put the centre near eye height, then check it still clears the zone lines. An 850 mm circle centred too high crops your head. A 600 mm rectangle mounted too low crops it the other way. If the clear wall is about 850–950 mm and there is one basin, shortlist a round and verify watts on the plate. If the wall is about 800 mm wide beside a single basin, shortlist the 450 W rectangle at £285.00. If the wall is at least 1200 mm, shortlist the 700 W rectangle at £349.99. If you need phone control, the only claim is Mirrorstone’s Wi-Fi bullet. If the wall is inside zone 1, stop. Shape does not change that rule.

Common questions

Is a round mirror better for a small WC?
Often yes, because an 850 mm circle fits a narrow pier that rejects a 1200 mm rectangle. The Radi8 round at £250.00 is the lower price, at 15 kg, with a 320 W title that conflicts with a 580 W field. A small WC still has to respect bathroom zones. A circle over the basin is only useful if that basin wall is outside zone 1.
Do two basins need a rectangle?
A 1200 × 600 mm panel is the one in this set that can span a two-basin run. The 800 × 600 mm rectangle suits one basin. An 850 mm round will sit over one bowl and leave the other without a mirror. If both basins need the same glass, use the wide Radi8 at £349.99, and check that 17.8 kg has something solid to fix to.
Do the shapes weigh the same?
No. In these files the 450 W rectangle is 12.3 kg, the Radi8 round is 15 kg, and the 700 W rectangle is 17.8 kg. Mirrorstone prints 2.6 kg on amazon.co.uk and about 10 kg on the maker sheet for the comparable 320 W round. Quote the weight you will actually hang, and buy anchors for that figure.
Can two shapes share the same watts?
Not in this batch. The rounds are titled 320 W and carry a conflicting 580 W line. The rectangles are an agreed 450 W and an agreed 700 W. Shape does not convert one into the other. Pick the watt band on the buying guide, then use this page for the wall.
Will a round mirror work in a hallway?
A hallway outside a bathroom is a simpler electrical location than zone 1, and an 850 mm round can suit a narrow hall if the wall takes the weight. You still need a competent electrical connection, and you still should not cover the hot glass. It will not dry coats. It is a mirror and a radiant panel, at the watts on the nameplate.
Where should the mirror sit for height?
Put the centre near eye height for the people who use the room, then check the top and bottom against the 2.25 metre zone height and against any shelf. An 850 mm round and a 600 mm-tall rectangle need different bottom clearances to land at the same eye line. If the only height that looks right puts the panel in zone 1, choose another wall.
