Best ring spanner set for the job in front of you

Updated: 24 October 2026

You already know you want a ring spanner set, and the remaining question is which of the kept amazon.co.uk listings matches the nut you can see. This page names the set, then who should leave it. Prices, stars and review counts are the amazon.co.uk figures in the [ring spanner comparison](/hub/hand-tools/ring-spanner). Peter F. compiled them on 22 October 2026. We did not run a lab test, and a qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Best here means best fit inside this folder, not a claim about every set on sale in the UK.

The only full pair list in this folder

BGS 1214 is the only kept listing that prints twelve pairs from 6×7 mm through 30×32 mm, including 21×23, 24×27 and 25×28. amazon.co.uk shows 4.6 from 2,552 reviews at £30.46. The bullets say hot-forged chrome vanadium, 12-point, DIN 838 and a deep offset, and they do not print the offset in degrees. UK texts praise the size run and the reach, and also mention a weak Tetron wallet and sharp machining marks. This is the top pick when the job needs the large pairs on a recessed fastener. Leave it if you only undo nuts up to 17 mm, because you would pay £30.46 and carry 3.24 kg for pairs you will not use. It is the wrong roll if you need the offset printed in degrees. The pipe-nut rule stays on the ring spanner buying guide.

A short set for recessed nuts

Silverline 673424 is six drop-forged rings from 6×7 mm to 16×17 mm in a nylon roll, at £5.95 and 4.6 from 307 reviews. It is not a smaller copy of the twelve-piece roll. UK texts name drop links, a belt tensioner, a tap under a sink and rear shocks. The bullets say deep offset and do not print a degree. It is not Silverline 627185, a twelve-piece at other UK shops. In this folder it is the best value when the fastener stays at or below 17 mm in a recess. Leave it if you need 19 mm or a printed standard. US PRO 2984 is seven swan necks from 6×7 mm to 18×19 mm at 35°, £14.20, with 4.7 from 336 reviews and a length for each pair from 160 mm to 246 mm. US PRO 3528 prints 75° on the same pairs, at £13.39, with 4.6 from 35 reviews and no lengths. A larger degree is not more reach. The bend itself is on offset ring spanner heads. The Hilka eight-piece, £11.95, 4.6 from 1,350 reviews, runs to 20×22 mm. The bullets do not say offset. Skip it when you needed a stated offset.

When the head must be flat

BGS 30300 is eight straight, extra-flat 12-point rings, cold forged, from 6×7 mm to 20×22 mm, at £28.02. amazon.co.uk shows 4.5 from 145 reviews, and only three of the saved texts are marked United Kingdom. One says the flat ring fits where a cranked ring will not. DIN 838 is not on these bullets, and the pairs stop before 21×23 and 30×32. Keep it when the fastener is hard against a panel and an offset head rocks off. Leave it when the nut is down a well.

Singles and E-Torx are not the set

A single spanner can be the right tool and still not be the best ring spanner set. Laser 5715 is one 21×23 mm ring titled for shock-absorber top nuts, at £9.60, with 4.8 from 48 reviews. That star line is the highest here and the sample is small. It does not hold a piston rod. The head-style field says open end, which conflicts with the title. The BGS open ring, 24×27 mm at 15°, £22.64, is a slotted ring for a nut a closed loop cannot pass. The US PRO E6 to E24 six-piece, £12.62, is external Torx. It will not fit a hex nut. Buy it beside a metric set, not instead of one.

Common questions

Which set in this comparison reaches 32 mm?
BGS 1214 is the only kept listing that prints pairs through 30×32 mm. Silverline 673424 ends at 16×17 mm, the US PRO swan necks end at 18×19 mm, and the Hilka rack and the flat BGS set end at 20×22 mm. A title that says 6-32 mm is not this twelve-piece list.
Is the £5.95 Silverline the same as the twelve-piece?
No. The amazon.co.uk row at £5.95 is model 673424, six pieces, stopping at 16×17 mm. Silverline 627185 is a different twelve-piece sold by other UK shops. Do not treat a twelve-piece photograph on another site as the contents of 673424.
Who should skip the Hilka eight-piece?
Skip it if the nut is recessed and you needed an offset the bullets print. UK texts include slip and a thick head on a strut. It is a reasonable starter when the nut is accessible and you want pairs through 22 mm. The 150 Nm field is not a torque test.
When is the flat BGS set the one to keep?
Keep BGS 30300 when a cranked head hits the panel and a straight ring can sit square, up to 20×22 mm. Leave it for a recessed nut or for pairs above 22 mm. At £28.02 you are paying for the flat head, not for a longer size list.
Is a larger angle a better set?
A 75° head is not automatically better than a 35° head. US PRO 3528 has 35 reviews and no length per pair. US PRO 2984 prints 35°, a length for each pair, and 336 reviews. If you cannot see why the steeper head is required, take the larger sample.
Do I need the E-Torx set as well?
Only if the fastener is external Torx. The E6 to E24 six-piece will not turn a hex nut, and the six pairs are not printed. UK reviews use it on BMW and Vauxhall fasteners a hex ring missed. It sits beside a metric set, not in place of one.
