Electric barbecue buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have a garden socket, a patio slab, or a kitchen table, and the amazon.co.uk Electric Barbecues list mixes £30 plates with lidded cookers near £300. This electric barbecue buying guide sorts that list into three types, then checks the plug and the place you can actually cook. It does not rank the six listings. The [electric barbecue comparison](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/electric-barbecue) holds the table. The Products Compared editorial team wrote this in October 2026 from those amazon.co.uk files and public UK sources, not from a lab cook. Three electric barbecues, not one

An open table, a lidded pellet cooker and a cast-iron lidded barbecue are not the same purchase with different prices. The Mihoho, the Gobanwei and the Luqixcey sit between £29.99 and £39.98, roughly 1.6–2.2 kg, with a shallow plate and a water tray in the listing or the warning text. The Ninja OG701UK is £259.99, a lidded outdoor grill with a pellet box and a UK plug, at 12 kg. Watts are not printed on its technical table. The Weber Lumin Compact is £271.81 and the Weber Lumin, model 92010974, is £307.45 on amazon.co.uk. Weber’s UK page has listed 92010974 at £579, a different channel, not this shelf price. If you want a lid and a stated outdoor use, the tables are the wrong shape. Named picks sit on the best electric barbecue page.

What the socket can feed

A normal UK socket is a BS 1363 outlet. Regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 requires a correct UK plug, or a proper fused conversion plug. A travel adaptor is not that plug. The Compact states 2,300 W. The full-size Lumin states 2,200 W and 230 V, the only row here with both figures filled in. The Gobanwei prints 2,000 W and 1,800 W on the same listing, so 2,000 W is not a settled fact for every cheap plate. SharkNinja’s support article states 2,400 W for the OG701UK. The amazon.co.uk table does not, so that support line does not fill the empty cell.

Outdoor claim versus a title

The Luqixcey and the Gobanwei both carry a recommended-use line that says indoor, while the title still says indoor and outdoor. The Weber listings say outdoor. The Ninja bullet names gardens, patios, balconies and camping. A maker’s outdoor claim still has to sit next to the place you are allowed to cook. A product title that mentions a balcony does not override a fire service or a lease. That clash is the electric BBQ balcony page. Do not buy an indoor/outdoor title for a kitchen.

How to read this comparison

Star ratings in this set are not interchangeable. The Ninja has 4.7 from 1,060 amazon.co.uk ratings. The Compact has 5.0 from one rating. The Lumin has no review line at all. The Mihoho has 4.0 from 41, the Luqixcey 3.6 from 40, and the Gobanwei 3.4 from five. One five-star review cannot outrank a four-figure sample. The Ninja file says one year on the spec line and two years after registration in a bullet. The Mihoho line is three months. None of that is a lab score.

Common questions

Is 2,000 W enough for an electric barbecue?
Two thousand watts is what several tables in this set print, and a Char-Broil UK guide treats about 2,000 W and 200°C as a floor if you want to cook meat rather than warm a plate. That figure is their suggestion, not a UK law. The Ninja’s amazon.co.uk technical table does not state watts, so you cannot use 2,000 W as a comparison number for that row.
Will it run from a normal UK socket?
Thirteen amps at 230 V is about 2,990 W. That sum is the plug rating, not a target you should cook towards. The stated wattages in this set sit under that sum where they are printed. You still should not share the socket with a kettle or run the grill on a multi-way adaptor.
Do I need an outdoor socket?
NICEIC says outdoor sockets should be RCD-protected and weatherproof, and that you should avoid a long extension lead. If the consumer unit has no RCD, Electrical Safety First says you still need that protection. An indoor use line on a cheap listing is not a reason to cook a Ninja or a Weber in the kitchen.
Why do two listings show the same part number YZ-06?
The Gobanwei and the Luqixcey both print the part number YZ-06. They are priced at £39.98 and £29.99 in this file, with different star counts. Read them as overlapping plates, and read each review file on its own.
What does IPX4 mean on the Ninja listing?
IPX4 on the Ninja bullet is a splash rating for the appliance. It is not a claim that you can hose the grill, and it is not the IP66 figure NICEIC often attaches to an outdoor socket. The Weber rows in this comparison do not print an IP figure at all. Weatherproofing the socket and splash-rating the cooker are two different jobs.
Should I buy the £30 model that ranks first in Electric Barbecues?
The Mihoho was rank 1 in Electric Barbecues in this file, at £37.99. UK reviews include a fire from oil on the element, a burnt worktop, and units that failed quickly. Rank is a sales position, not a safety result.
