BBQ rotisserie kit UK: measure the cooker first

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have a gas barbecue, or you only have a kitchen worktop, and a page called universal is one tap from the basket. A BBQ rotisserie kit UK shoppers are offered still has to match the cookbox, the rod, the load unit, and the plug. This page is that measurement. It does not crown a winner. The four listings sit side by side on the [rotisserie comparison](/hub/grill-accessories/rotisserie). Peter F. checked those amazon.co.uk files. We did not run a lab. Three machines, three jobs

The onlyfire BRK-6012 borrows the grill you already own: a 114 cm hex rod, a counterbalance, forks, brackets, and a motor described as for the UK, at £66.99. It states 40 lb and a cookbox up to 99 cm, and it names Broil King, Broil Mate, Sterling, and GrillPro. The NutriChef files are 10 litre worktop ovens at 700 W, £92.99 in white and £99.99 in black. The Kendane UKKen-006 is a charcoal frame at £169.98, with a 132 cm rod, 15 W, 3 RPM, and a stated 40 kg. If you have no grill, that choice is rotisserie kit or hog spit.

Measure the cookbox and the rod

Measure the internal width, wall to wall, where the rod and the food sit. The outer cabinet is the wrong ruler. The onlyfire listing tells you to measure, and UK texts include a kit that did not fit. The rod is hex, 12 mm by 12 mm, so a square or round spit will not seat, and the counterbalance is there because a lopsided bird stalls a small kit motor. A grill outside the four named brands is a guess, even near 99 cm. The best rotisserie in this set will not turn a 114 cm bracket kit into a Weber 57 cm kettle ring.

Load, plug, and where it will run

The onlyfire kit states 40 lb, about 18 kg. The Kendane states 40 kg. Char-Broil UK support states 6 kg and also 10 to 15 lb on one answer. Do not paste either figure onto every motor. The onlyfire file says a motor for the UK, auto reverse, and a 150 cm cable. It does not print wattage or a BS 1363 line. Keep the motor off the hot lid. A listing that says 110 V is the wrong supply for a UK socket, and charcoal stays outside.

Questions before you order

White PKRT15 at £92.99 states 185 degrees Fahrenheit, 35.5 × 32 × 32 cm, and 5.81 kg. Black PKRT16BK at £99.99 states 185 degrees Celsius, 22.9 × 22.9 × 25.4 cm, and 3.95 kg. Both show 3.9 from 459, and the 12 texts match, so this is one sample. A 70 cm onlyfire at £54.99 does not donate its 4 W or 15 kg line to the 114 cm kit. Reviews on that longer kit include a plastic cog that melted in under two hours on a lamb cook.

Common questions

Will a universal kit fit my gas barbecue?
A universal title is not a measurement. The onlyfire BRK-6012 states a cookbox up to 99 cm and names Broil King, Broil Mate, Sterling, and GrillPro, and the listing tells you to measure. UK texts in that file include a kit that did not fit. Char-Broil’s 67 cm UK universal excludes some Char-Broil models of its own. Match the internal width and the named brackets before you add it to the basket.
How do I measure the cookbox?
Measure the internal width where the rod and the food have to sit, wall to wall, not the outer cart and not the side shelf. Then check that the rod length, the fork travel, and the bracket feet match that opening and the ledge the listing names. A 114 cm hex rod can still be the wrong object for a short portable or for a 57 cm kettle.
Is a 114 cm bracket kit the same as a Weber kettle ring?
No. The onlyfire kit is brackets and a hex rod for a cookbox up to 99 cm. Weber’s UK 57 cm rotisserie is a ring for that kettle, shown at £161.49 reduced from £189.99, and it is not one of the four listings in this set. If the cooker is a 57 cm kettle, the ring is the matching purchase.
What is the difference between 40 lb and 40 kg?
Forty pounds is about 18 kg. The onlyfire kit states 40 lb. The Kendane stand states 40 kg, and reviews on that stand dispute even the higher figure. Reading the kilogram line onto the grill kit asks a barbecue motor to do a hog-stand job.
Do I need a UK 3-pin plug and an RCD?
For a domestic lead into a BS 1363 socket in England, Wales, and Scotland, regulation 35 expects a correctly fitted UK plug, or a conversion plug with a BS 1362 fuse. Outdoors, use an RCD at not more than 30 mA, test the button, and use an outdoor-rated lead on dry ground. A line that only says motor for the UK has not printed the plug standard.
When should I buy a vertical oven instead?
Buy the oven when you have a worktop and no barbecue, or when you want an indoor electric cook rather than smoke from a grill. The NutriChef files are 10 litres and 700 W. They are the wrong buy when you already own a gas barbecue you meant to keep using, because the element replaces that grill.
What if the listing says 110 V?
Do not order it for a UK mains socket. Domestic supply here is 230 V with a BS 1363 plug. A 110 V vertical oven is a reject in this market, not a bargain you correct with a travel adaptor.
