What wooden means on the listing

Wooden on a title can mean a steel head with a wood grip, bamboo from tip to handle, or teak. Extodry at £9.97 is stainless, 9 in and 12 in, with oak in the bullets. Maywe is 430 stainless with oak: 30 cm at £8.99 and 43 cm at £12.99. Dan&Co at £8.99 is 45 cm bamboo. AIUHI at £9.99 is teak. Dan&Co's title says bamboo and the material field says stainless steel. Length, jaw, lock, and the wash line

Smoke & Soil treats about 30–40 cm as useful, and about 25 cm as too short. Use the bullet, not a square field such as 33 cm by 33 cm. Kettle centimetres are on the length page. UK reviews of Dan&Co say the opening is about an inch. Maywe names scalloped tips and a pull-ring. Extodry's lock is disputed: simple, missing, or jammed. Dan&Co and AIUHI state no lock. Extodry and Maywe say dishwasher safe, and UK reviews still warn the oak may suffer. Dan&Co and AIUHI say hand wash.

What the prices in this set can and cannot tell you

Shelf prices run from £8.99 to £12.99. Dunelm at £3.50 shows that is not the floor. Smoke & Soil's £15–25 rule of thumb sits above this folder. The comparison scores are not a lab rank. £9.97 is two lengths and 4.7 from 3,120 with United Kingdom headers. Maywe at £8.99 is 4.7 from 59 without those headers. The £12.99 reviews describe 12 in tongs. Dan&Co is 4.2 from 85 with a narrow jaw. AIUHI is 3.4 from 29, with a first-use break. The two £8.99 rows are not the same head.

Food contact, then a decision with no winner

If you want a steel head and a wood grip, read the lock and the dishwasher field before you pay. If you want bamboo reach, confirm the food is thin and that you will hand wash. If the teak pair has break reviews and a short title, treat it as a server you can return, not as the grate tool.

Common questions

What should you check before you buy wooden barbecue tongs?
Check the head first, then the stated length, then whether the jaw opens wide enough for the food, then the wash line and any lock. Only after that should the price and the origin of the reviews decide between two listings that already match the job. A wood word in the title is not one of those checks on its own.
Is a wood handle the same as an all-wood tong?
No. Extodry and both Maywe listings are stainless heads with oak handles. Dan&Co is bamboo throughout, and AIUHI is teak. The handle can keep your hand off hot steel. It does not make a bamboo tip safe in a flame, and it does not make a steel tip gentle on a non-stick pan.
How long should the arms be for a kettle?
Smoke & Soil treats about 30–40 cm as the useful band, and treats about 25 cm as too short at the grate. Maywe's 12 in bullet is 30 cm. The 17 in bullet is 43 cm. Dan&Co states 45 cm. Extodry's 9 in pair is the short one in a two-piece set. The length page works through control.
Why does jaw width matter if the tong is already 45 cm?
Reach and opening are different. UK reviews of the 45 cm Dan&Co pair say the jaw is about an inch, so a thick sausage, a chicken breast or a roast does not sit in the tips even though the arm clears the kettle rim. A shorter steel pair with scalloped tips can hold that food when the bamboo pair cannot.
Can you trust a dishwasher-safe field on an oak handle?
Treat it as the seller's field, then read the reviews. Extodry's listing says yes, and UK reviews still warn that the wood may suffer or say they have kept the tongs out of the machine. Dan&Co and AIUHI say hand wash in plain text. If the grips are the reason you bought the tong, a dishwasher cycle is a gamble the field does not remove.
Are wooden tongs food-safe because they are natural?
Wood can be a food-contact material under assimilated Regulation 1935/2004. That does not certify a particular pair, and it does not replace washing. Raw juice on a bamboo or oak grip is the same problem as raw juice on steel. Use a second tong, or wash, before the food is ready to eat.
What is a fair GBP band on amazon.co.uk in this set?
