Wall mounted hose reel buying guide

Updated: October 2026

A wall mounted hose reel buying guide is the order of decisions before the price: how far the water has to travel, whether a spring or a handle rewinds it, whether you may drill that wall, and which thread the tap has. The [wall mounted hose reel comparison](/hub/garden-watering/wall-mounted-hose-reel) holds the nine amazon.co.uk listings from 15 October 2026, priced from £50.99 to £135.97. This page does not name a top pick. The Products Compared editorial team used those listings and the review texts already read, not a lab test. How far the hose has to reach

Pace the route from the tap to the furthest pot, and add a little slack for corners. Gardena’s UK watering pages use about 10–15 m for a small garden, 20–25 m for a medium one, and 30 m and above for a larger plot. The SUNPOW package lists a 15 m hose, though the title also says 15 m+2 m. The 20 m cassettes are ROYWEL RY20MBK, HICHIKA and LYMIN. The 30 m lines are Giraffe Tools, the Hozelock Auto Reel 2403 and Bietor. The Hozelock Fast Reel is 40 m plus 2 m, and you crank it. A stated 2 m lead only reaches the tap. Do not add it to the drum length. ROYWEL UK-35100NB’s title says 30 m and a later bullet says up to 20 m.

Auto rewind, a handle, or a listing that says both

Auto rewind here means a spring. You walk the hose out, it locks, and a tug starts the return while you still hold the end. The Hozelock Auto Reel booklet for the 2403 describes a 15–30 cm pull at the reel to release the latch. That measurement belongs to that booklet. Other brands only get a tug where their own listing says so. Once the bracket is up, the sequence is on the how to use a retractable hose reel page. The only manual reel here is the Hozelock Fast Reel 2496. A layering guide feeds the hose onto the drum while you turn the handle. Layering is not auto rewind. Auto rewind versus a manual hose reel is only that spring against the Fast Reel. Giraffe Tools, Bietor and ROYWEL UK-35100NB say automatic rewind in the bullets and manual in the operation-mode field. A mixed label is unfinished information.

The wall and the outdoor tap

The bracket needs a wall you are allowed to drill, and a substrate that will hold about 7–12 kg before the hose is full of water. Render over a soft block, a thin fence panel, and a wall you do not own are the usual stops. HICHIKA and Bietor call the housing frost-resistant or UV-protected. The Royal Horticultural Society still says to drain plastic hoses before frost. UK-35100NB has a pivot pin so you can lift the unit off a wall or a wooden post larger than 4×4. Hozelock’s outdoor tap connector covers 3/4 inch BSP, about 26.5 mm, and 1/2 inch BSP, about 21 mm. None of these reels is a double check valve under the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. A hosepipe ban, when one is declared, is not waived because the hose lives in a cassette. No such ban was in force on 15 October 2026.

What this set cost

On 15 October 2026 the amazon.co.uk shelf prices sat in three bands. About £51–£70 covered LYMIN at £50.99, SUNPOW at £55.94, ROYWEL UK-35100NB at £57.79, ROYWEL RY20MBK at £59.59, Bietor at £67.99 and HICHIKA at £69.99. Giraffe Tools was £99.99 and the Fast Reel £109.97. The Hozelock Auto Reel 2403 was £135.97. Those figures move. This guide only fixes the order: reach, rewind, wall, tap, then price and the size of the review file.

Common questions

Does the 2 m feeder count as watering length?
No. Where a lead is itemised, it only joins the cassette to the tap. SUNPOW’s title says 15 m+2 m and the package line does not list a separate lead, so do not add two metres until you see them. ROYWEL RY20MBK includes a connection hose of unstated length. UK-35100NB’s title and bullet disagree on 30 m and 20 m, which is the watering hose, not the feeder.
Should I choose auto rewind or a handle?
Choose a spring if you want a tug to start the return and you will walk the end back. Choose the Hozelock Fast Reel if you want 40 m plus 2 m and you will turn a handle. The layering guide on that reel is not automatic rewind. Listings that say both manual and automatic are Giraffe Tools, Bietor and ROYWEL UK-35100NB.
Will it fit a 3/4 inch outdoor tap, or an older 1/2 inch tap?
Many UK outdoor taps are 3/4 inch BSP, about 26.5 mm, with a 1/2 inch BSP adapter around 21 mm, which is what Hozelock’s tap connector covers. Some reels include both adapters. Check the included-parts line. The reel does not replace a double check valve on the tap.
Can I fix the bracket to render, a fence panel, or a wall I do not own?
Only if that wall can take the fixings and you are allowed to drill it. A thin panel or a rented wall you cannot drill is a reason to leave the category. UK-35100NB allows a wooden post larger than 4×4 as well as a wall. A frost-resistant housing is not permission to leave the hose full through a freeze.
What should I ignore when a listing disagrees with itself?
Keep both sentences visible. If the title says 30 m and a bullet says up to 20 m, neither length is settled. If the bullets say automatic rewind and the operation-mode field says manual, do not pick one quietly. A star rating on 21 reviews does not outweigh a four-figure review file at a similar price.
