Felco long reach loppers

Updated: 22 October 2026

You can see the crossing branch in the apple crown, and a 40 cm or 60 cm lopper still leaves your hands short of the stem. Felco long reach loppers in this set are the 221, in three fixed lengths. The job is to pick 70, 80, or 90 cm without pretending the amazon.co.uk fields agree with the name. The [Felco loppers comparison](/hub/garden-tree-and-hedge-shears/felco-loppers) holds the eight listings. None of them is telescopic, and the Felco 290 pole is not here. What the 221 changes

The 221 is an ungeared bypass with a longer fixed handle and a stated 45 mm capacity. Groundskeeping Journal describes the range as 70, 80, and 90 cm, up to 45 mm. The head is still a bypass for living wood, not an anvil and not a cam. The 221 captures sit at £109.00, £125.23, and £124.99. You are paying for length and the 45 mm class, not for a gear. Where the cut goes, and when you stop, is on how to prune with loppers.

70, 80, and 90 on these listings

Read the model number first, then the field that disagrees with it. The 221-70, ASIN B0BWCBDT7Q, was £109.00, listed at 1.34 kg, with a size of 71.12 cm and 4.8 from 42 reviews. The 221-80, ASIN B0BWCFXDGR, was £125.23, with a size of 80 cm and an item length of 84 cm. It shares 4.8 from 42 reviews with the 221-70, so that star line is not a separate test of the 80 cm handle. The 221-90, ASIN B0BWC5HX9G, was £124.99, with a title of 90 cm, a size of 36 inches, and an item length of 80 cm, at 4.7 from 48 reviews. Thirty-six inches is about 91 cm, nearer the title than the 80 cm field. Who should skip a 221 is on best Felco loppers.

Swing room and the ground

A longer handle reaches the crown and needs a wider arc to close. In a dense shrub the same handles meet the next stem before the jaw shuts. Both feet stay on the ground. A 90 cm lopper is not a ladder. The 221 is still a bypass. Dead wood that wants an anvil is the 231.

When to stay at 40 or 60 cm

Stay short when the wood is in reach and the space is tight. The 211-60 is the mid bypass, 35 mm, captured at £91.91. The 201-40 and the 211-40 are the short names, at £89.00 and £89.95. Choose the 221 when a 40 cm or 60 cm tool leaves you short with both feet on the ground. The 221-70 at £109.00 is the best value of the three when that first step of reach is enough. None of these eight is telescopic. The sequence is on the Felco loppers buying guide.

Common questions

Is the 90 cm much stronger than the 70 cm?
No. Both are ungeared 221 bypasses in the 45 mm class Felco states for the range. The 90 cm listing is heavier, 1.68 kg against 1.34 kg on the 70 cm, and the handle is the difference you are paying for. It does not add the cam that Felco describes on the 220 and the 231. Groundskeeping Journal's up to 45 mm is the range note, not a test repeated here.
Why does one listing say 80 cm and 90 cm?
The 221-90 title says 90 cm, the size field says 36 inches, and the item-length field says 80 cm. Felco's shop length for that model is 900 mm. The collection price on that view was £119, against an amazon capture of £124.99. Both stay visible rather than overwriting the amazon field. Thirty-six inches is about 91 cm, closer to the title than to 80 cm. Order by the model number once you have seen the conflict.
Will a longer handle replace a ladder?
It replaces a ladder only for the stems you can already seat with both feet on the ground. An 80 cm or 90 cm handle reaches into a crown a 40 cm tool cannot. It does not make an overhead limb safe, and it does not turn you into someone working at height. If the branch can hit a path, a building, or a cable, or if you would need to climb, stop and call a surgeon. Reach is not permission to leave the ground.
Is the 221 geared?
No. The 221 is the ungeared long bypass. The geared tools in this set are the 220, a bypass at £198.18, and the 231, an anvil at £190.00. Felco's figure of about 65 percent more cutting force belongs to those two, as the manufacturer's claim, not to the 221. Buying a 90 cm 221 does not add that cam. If force on a 40 mm stem is the limit, you are on the wrong model.
Do I still want the 211-60?
Yes, if the stem is in reach and in the 35 mm class. The 211-60 was £91.91, against £109.00 for the shortest 221. The extra money pays for a longer handle and a stated 45 mm, which is wasted on a thin rose you can already cut. Move to the 221 when the 60 cm handle leaves the jaw short of the stem.
