Nut collector buying guide

Updated: 21.10.2026

An oak, a horse chestnut, or two apple trees can cover a UK lawn in a weekend, and the amazon.co.uk titles then promise one roller for acorns, walnuts, golf balls, and apples. A nut collector buying guide has to start with the gap in the wires, because a cage that lets a 6 cm apple in will also let a 2 cm acorn fall straight out. The [nut collector comparison](/hub/garden-tools/nut-collector) holds the listing table. Measure what is on the grass, confirm the handle is in the box, then choose how the cage empties. Prices are the amazon.co.uk shelf figures checked on 20 October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Measure what is on the grass

Pick up five or six objects and measure the ones you actually want, across the widest firm part, not the husk and not the split fruit. The zozen medium, B0BGSLD1FX at £34.99, states about 2–4 cm and about 3.8 litres. The zozen large, B0BGSQNKSQ at £36.99, states 2.5–6.5 cm and about 5.7 litres. The FC-M, B086Z9Y4FP at £69.99, states 3.5–10 cm and a 30 cm working width. Nut Wizard’s FAQ is plain: a larger gap does not also keep the small nuts. The acorn picker page stays on the small nuts. The windfall page stays on apples and larger conkers.

Check the handle is in the box

A correct gap is useless if the parcel is only a head. The zozen listings describe a telescopic aluminium pole to 139 cm. A UK reviewer at 6 ft 2 in found the medium handle short, and a reviewer at 5 ft 9 in found the large handle long enough, so 139 cm is a listing maximum. LEJIEYIN states a stainless shaft of about 18.5–41.5 in, though the dimension line also says 127 cm. NG-012, B0BZVXYYDN at £24.99, says 57 in in the title, 75 cm in a bullet, and 146 cm on the dimension line. The FC-M included line says hanger and basket, and UK reviews say the adaptor was missing.

Choose how it empties

Both zozen listings describe a side opening and say you do not pull the wires apart. The cited European patent number 10789234 is listing text, not a ruling that the design is better. NG-012 describes a side tilt outlet. A German review on that file, not a UK rate, says larger apples may not leave through it. LEJIEYIN and the Garden Weasel bullets say you empty by spreading the wires. The only UK review on Jectse, B0CWWF8B3X at £42.36, says you pull the bars apart, and that reviewer wanted a side empty. On a heavy fall, shortlist the side opening, with the limit that one zozen large review marked that opening down.

When the listing contradicts itself

Read the size bullet before the word large. Garden Weasel ASIN B0FKDDZWZ3 costs £57.86. The title says large, and the bullet says 3/4 in to 2 in and a 1 gallon cage. The part number is 95334-3 and the item model number is 95314-3. On the maker’s pages, 95314 is the medium band. This amazon.co.uk page does not settle that clash, so this comparison does not call the ASIN the large gatherer. LEJIEYIN, B08P4J77GC at £25.99, states about 1.5–3 in in the bullets and about 1–3 in in the title. Jectse states 1,200 ml, with 4.7 from four reviews, and the bullets say hold and squeeze while the title says roller. The best nut gatherer page says who should skip each listing.

If it arrives wrong

If the pole is bent, the adaptor is missing, or the cage is a different size from the bullet you bought, that is a description problem, not a technique problem. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you generally have 30 days to reject goods that are faulty, unfit, or not as described. Citizens Advice sets out the route: you go back to the retailer, the amazon.co.uk seller on these listings, and you can ask for a refund in that first window. Northern Ireland follows a different product-safety regulation from Great Britain’s General Product Safety Regulations 2005. Neither is a performance standard for nut rollers.

Common questions

What diameter should I measure before I buy?
Measure the nuts or fruit you want off the lawn, in centimetres, across the widest firm part. Acorns in this set sit against the zozen medium’s stated 2–4 cm. Firm small apples sit against 2.5–6.5 cm or the FC-M’s 3.5–10 cm. If the objects span both bands, one cage will miss one of the jobs.
Is a large roller also good for acorns?
Only if its bullet still starts low enough. The zozen large listing starts at 2.5 cm, so the smallest acorns are outside the stated band. The FC-M starts at 3.5 cm, and a Netherlands review on that file says acorns fell out. A wider gap is a different tool.
Does the listing include the handle?
Read the included-components line, not the photo. The zozen and LEJIEYIN listings describe a pole. The FC-M line says hanger and basket, and UK reviews report a missing adaptor. A head at £69.99 plus a separate Multi-Star handle is a different spend from a roller with a pole in the description.
Side opening or pull the wires?
A side opening, as on the zozen listings, is less grip work when you empty often. Pulling the wires, as on LEJIEYIN and the Weasel bullets, is the method those pages actually describe. The FC-M hangs the basket on a bucket instead.
Why do the Garden Weasel numbers on one Amazon page disagree?
The title says large, the bullet says 3/4–2 in and 1 gallon, and the part number and model number are not the same code. The maker’s medium page matches the bullet. The large page does not. Buy from the bullet you can live with, or leave that ASIN until the page agrees with itself. The written reviews in the saved listing are from the United States.
