Garden furniture cover: choose the shape before the fabric

Updated: 22 October 2026

You already own the patio set, and the cover has to go over it with the chairs pushed in. A garden furniture cover title on amazon.co.uk often says it fits most sets. The centimetres decide whether the hem reaches the feet. This guide is the order of decisions: shape, then three measurements, then fastening and the water words. Every listing is on the [garden furniture cover comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/garden-furniture-cover). Prices are shelf prices from 19 October 2026. Peter F. read those listings. Start with the shape, not the slogan

Four shapes sit in this set, and they are not interchangeable. A rectangle covers a table with chairs pushed in. A round is a circle of about 130 cm. A cube is 90 cm on each side. A sofa cover is long and shallow. A higher denier does not rescue the wrong outline. Denier is on the 420D versus 600D page. SIRUITON at 250 × 250 × 90 cm is the square reviewers mention for a corner set. Funshot's black cover is 420D at Ø130 × 70 cm, and the green Funshot is PE at the same £20.99. PATIO PLUS is the 600D round at 130 × 71 cm.

Three measurements, then a small allowance

Measure length, width and height where you will leave the set, with the chairs pushed in. Pennells puts the tape at the widest points and the height at the tallest back. Rūma allows a couple of centimetres. Platinum treats more than about 15 cm of spare on one side as usually too much, because wind fills it. That 15 cm line is the retailer's rule of thumb. Read both size lines and do not average them. RICHIE's 170 cm cover says 71 cm in the title and 70 cm in the dimensions row. BEEWAY's 200 cm cover says 73 cm and 74 cm. The green Funshot says 70 cm and 71 cm. RICHIE's 500D title says grey and the colour field says black.

Fastening and the water words

Read the fastening, not the word windproof. BEEWAY lists side buckles, bottom buckles and a drawstring. Dokon lists click straps and a hem cord. PATIO PLUS lists four click buckles and a drawstring. Aoretic uses hook-and-loop. RICHIE's 170 cm cover is drawstring and Velcro, and a storm removed a cover taped at the corners. Hem and straps are on the how to fit page. Waterproof is the seller's claim. CAP Code 3.7 treats it as an objective claim that needs evidence, and we hold no soak test. RICHIE's 170 cm bullets say a waterproof PU coating and the specification row says water resistant. AWNIC prints 3500 mm H2O with no method. Dokon names a nano coating and no denier. The green Funshot says PE.

What this set costs, and what it is not

Shelf prices run from £6.79 to £33.99. Aoretic is £6.79 and the small BEEWAY is £8.49. The middle, about £15 to £22, holds the 200 cm BEEWAY, Dokon's cube, AWNIC, both Funshot rounds and the large BEEWAY. PATIO PLUS is £30.49 and SIRUITON is £33.99. Three BEEWAY sizes each show 4.6 from 3,875. Do not add those counts. If the cover is not as described, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 includes a 30-day short-term right to reject. BS EN 581 applies to outdoor seating and tables, not to these covers.

Common questions

What size garden furniture cover do I need for a table and chairs?
Measure the stored layout with the chairs pushed in: length at the widest point, width across the sides, and height at the tallest back. The cover should be a little larger. Platinum’s guide treats more than about 15 cm of spare on one side as usually too much. A mid dining rectangle here is about 180 × 120 cm or 200 × 160 cm. A 125 × 63 cm cover is a bistro size, and a 90 cm cube is not a dining cover.
Should I buy a rectangle, a round, a cube or a sofa cover?
Match the outline. Rectangles and the 250 cm square cover dining sets and large L-shapes. The three rounds are for a table near 130 cm across. Dokon is a 90 cm cube. AWNIC is a 220 × 85 × 71 cm sofa cover. A slogan that lists every type of furniture does not change the printed centimetres.
The listing says waterproof and the row says water resistant. Which do I trust?
You keep both strings. On RICHIE’s 170 × 95 × 71 cm cover the bullets say a waterproof PU coating and the specification row says water resistant. Neither line is a test we repeated. AWNIC’s 3500 mm figure is the only water-pressure number in the folder, and it has no method attached.
Why do three BEEWAY covers show the same 3,875 reviews?
The 125 cm, 200 cm and 242 cm ASINs each print 4.6 from 3,875, and the saved listings share one review block. Treat that as one parent line. Separate the sizes by the centimetres: 125 × 63 × 73 cm, 200 × 160 × 73 cm and 242 × 182 × 102 cm.
Can the cushions stay under the cover?
Care guides from Harbour Lifestyle and the RHS point the other way. Bring soft cushions indoors and cover dry furniture. A waterproof shell can still wet the frame from moist air trapped underneath. That is a condensation problem, not proof the cloth has a hole.
