The attribute may say plastic, pine, or a mix of aluminium and iron. This page is the material fork for the ten amazon.co.uk benches: what steel tube is, what the iron words are doing, and which metals are not in the carton. Powder-coated steel tube

Steel tube is the ordinary domestic metal here, and it is lighter than a solid casting. The Garden Vida rose, lattice, and tulip benches print alloy steel and plastic, about 125 cm, 10.5 kg, at £44.99 to £47.95. Grand patio prints alloy steel at 128 cm and 17 kg, at £141.72 and £149.98. VEVOR prints metal and PVC at 8.9 kg. None of those rows is a cast-iron bench. Powder coating is paint in a film, not a layer of zinc. Steel rusts where the film chips, which is a review pattern on the lattice bench. On the tulip bench some buyers describe wood while the bullets say steel and plastic. A shared Grand patio review says only the back is rust proof aluminium. The attribute still says alloy steel. Seventeen kilograms is a two-person carry, not proof of solid bar.

Cast iron and wrought iron in the title

Cast iron, as shoppers use the phrase, is a heavy casting. Wrought iron on a title usually means scrollwork. Gates Garden Centre separates heavy painted iron from light aluminium. Those are trade descriptions, not measurements of these ASINs. Brown HLC, B074MMPMBZ, prints aluminium, iron, and metal, weighs about 8 kg, and costs £89.99. Black HLC, B016ZU0238, prints wrought iron, weighs about 10 kg, and costs £85.99. Titles add cast iron and cast aluminium. A bench you can lift with one hand is a coated mixed-metal flat-pack. The Garden Vida wood-slat benches put iron at the ends and pine on the seat, at 11.5 kg. A two-bench review says both cast-iron legs arrived broken. Width next to the three-seater claim is on the metal garden bench buying guide.

Aluminium, and the bench this set does not have

Aluminium does not make the orange rust that steel makes. It can still corrode in salt air. Lazy Susan prefers cast aluminium because that is their range, not a result for these ten listings. This set prints only a trace of it, on the brown HLC line beside iron. There is no listing whose material line is only cast aluminium. Dark painted metal gets hot in full sun. None of these listings includes a cushion.

Galvanised steel is a different product

Galvanised steel has a zinc coat. Teignbridge's memorial-bench note describes that build, fixed to the ground. BS EN ISO 1461, the zinc-coating standard Store Fittings Direct cites, is not printed on any of these ten listings. No kept listing uses the word galvanised. A £45 Garden Vida bench is powder-coated steel and plastic. Grand patio is still alloy steel without that word. What the coating does outside is on metal garden bench rusting.

Which metal fits which job here

Choose powder-coated steel for a cheap patio bench if you accept a plastic insert. That is the Garden Vida rose, lattice, or tulip row. Choose Grand patio for the 17 kg park shape, knowing the two colours share one review text. Choose HLC for a light two-seater and treat cast iron as a look. Skip cast aluminium and galvanised steel inside this set. Who should buy which job is on best metal garden bench. The material line is the decision. The title is the advert.

Common questions

Is cast iron stronger than steel for a garden bench?
Not in the way the titles suggest. The iron-named benches here weigh about 8 to 11.5 kg, which is tube and light castings, not an estate bench. Steel tube at 10.5 to 17 kg is what Grand patio and Garden Vida print. A seller load is not a strength test to BS EN 581.
Will aluminium rust?
Aluminium does not form the orange rust you see on steel. It can still corrode, and salt air is harsher. This set does not contain a pure cast-aluminium bench. The brown HLC line mixes aluminium with iron, at about 8 kg. A chip on the iron in that mix can still go orange.
Why is the HLC bench light if the title says iron?
Because the attribute and the weight disagree with a solid casting. Brown prints aluminium, iron, and metal at about 8 kg. Black prints wrought iron at about 10 kg. Scrollwork on a light tube still looks like iron. Open ends in the reviews hold rain.
What is powder coating?
It is a dry paint, charged and baked into a film. It covers the metal until it is cut or worn at a bolt hole. It is not galvanising. Reviews on the cheaper rows describe rust where the film has failed at joints. An anti-rust line does not add a zinc layer the attribute forgot to mention.
Is galvanised the same as powder coated?
No. Galvanising deposits zinc. Powder coating deposits paint. Some civic benches have both. Teignbridge describes that build for memorial benches fixed to the ground. None of the ten listings here prints galvanised. If you need the zinc layer, you need a listing that says so.
Are the wooden-slat benches metal benches?
They are metal at the ends and wood on the seat. The Garden Vida rose and cross slat benches print iron with pine and plastic, at £47.99 and 11.5 kg. Reviews call the back plastic and the wood pine. For an all-metal seat, use the steel rows or Grand patio.
