Tallox Chainsaw Chain Buying Guide

Updated: 15 October 2026

You have the saw on the bench and a tallox three-pack open on amazon.co.uk. The title names a 14-inch or 16-inch bar and a brand you already own. This tallox chainsaw chain buying guide sets the order of checks: read the stamp on the bar, then leave any of these nine listings whose own fields disagree. The nine-row table is the [Tallox chainsaw chain comparison](/hub/forestry-tools/tallox-chainsaw-chain). Prices below come from those amazon.co.uk listing files, not from a live check. We did not run a cutting test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Read the bar before the listing

Trust the stamp on the bar tail, or the drive links of the chain you are taking off. Pitch has to match the bar and the sprocket. Stihl UK treats 3/8 inch and 3/8 inch P as different pitches, so a bare 3/8 inch title does not name yours. These titles print gauges of 1.1 mm, 1.3 mm, 1.5 mm, or 1.6 mm. A 1.1 mm chain in a 1.3 mm groove can lean and come out of the bar. The inch figure is the cutting length, and the drive-link count is the loop. Choose the cutter only after the size matches. Where the listing disagrees with itself, use the chainsaw chain pitch, gauge, and drive links page, then stop.

Five conflicts in this tallox set

On the 50-link pack the title says 3/8 inch, 1.3 mm, 50 links, and 14 inch, at £19.45, and the specification says 0.19 inches. That figure is not 3/8 inch (0.375, printed here as 0.38) and not .325 inch (printed as 0.33), so leave both lines as printed. The .325 inch listing says semi-chisel, 1.5 mm, 68 links, and Replaces Oregon 73LPX068E, at £23.95. Oregon publishes 73LPX as 3/8 inch and full chisel, at 1.5 mm. The title matches 68 links and the gauge, and it misses the pitch and the cutter. The 14-inch 1.3 mm pack and the £16.42 pack print Durable – German raw material and China as the country of origin, with no mill certificate. The 1.1 mm pack's title says 3/8 inch and its model line says 3/8 inch LP. The 10-inch bar pack prints 1 g for a bar and three chains, which is not a credible packed weight.

What you can decide from these nine rows

A matched stamp points at a row for that bar. Who should still skip it is on the best tallox chainsaw chain page. Price is the last check. A three-pack divided by three is about £5.50 to £11 a loop, and £29.33 includes a bar. Forty links at 1.3 mm on about 25 cm, with a 3/8 inch stamp, is the £16.42 pack. Leave it if you need a bar, or if the stamp says 3/8 LP. On 16 inch, £20.95 is 57 links at 1.3 mm if you counted 57, and £32.92 is 60 links at 1.6 mm. If the stamp is missing, there is no row to choose.

When you stop

Ask a dealer when the stamp is unreadable or the listing contradicts itself. A spread or blue groove, a thrown chain, or a failed brake is a fault in the saw. Grinding the drive links will not turn the wrong pitch into a fit. At work, a saw on or in a tree is for a trained person. PUWER regulation 9 requires training, and tree work needs a certificate unless you are supervised while training. A garden saw at home does not, by that text, require an NPTC certificate. These packs include no gloves or leg protection to BS EN 381-7 or BS EN 381-5, and a bumper-link line is not a test to BS EN ISO 11681-1. The Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 9, judges satisfactory quality against the description and the price. Once the three numbers agree, direction, tension, and oil are on how to fit a chainsaw chain.

Common questions

What do I read before the star rating?
Read pitch first, including P or LP, then gauge, then drive links. Cutter, price, and stars come after those three agree. B01AAWV72M is still 4.4 from 2,467 reviews, with 0.19 inches under a 3/8 inch title. That score does not repair the field.
Is a 16-inch chain the same as 57 drive links?
Sixteen inches is the bar's cutting length. B01AAWVNM6 has 57 links at 1.3 mm, and B01AAWVNA8 has 60 at 1.6 mm. One UK reviewer counted 55 links on an MS 181 and found the 57-link loop about 2 cm too long. Stihl's MS 181 example gives no link count, so count your own chain.
What if the title says 3/8 inch and the specification says 0.19 inches?
Leave B01AAWV72M. The title says 3/8 inch and the specification says 0.19 inches, at £19.45 for 50 links. 0.19 is not 3/8 inch (0.375, printed here as 0.38) and not .325 inch (printed as 0.33). The 4.4 score does not make those lines agree.
Can I use the 1.1 mm 52-link pack on a 1.3 mm bar?
B01AAWVEIO is 1.1 mm and B01AAWWD2A is 1.3 mm, both 52 links and 14 inch, at £31.91 and £21.50. Stihl UK says a 1.1 mm chain can lean out of a 1.3 mm groove. Use the thinner pack only when the stamp says 1.1 mm and 3/8 LP. The higher price does not thicken the drive link.
Does German raw material mean the chain was made in Germany?
B01AAWWD2A and B07HF9LFS4 print Durable – German raw material and China as the country of origin, with no mill certificate. The bullet does not show where the chain was made. Match pitch, gauge, and drive links before you treat that line as a reason to buy.
Does a brand list on the title prove the loop fits that saw?
Fit is pitch, gauge, and drive-link count. A Stihl, Husqvarna, or Makita name in the title can still be the wrong loop. Model 3003-000-6113 beside part TA3X8S16H603 on B01AAWVNA8 does not show a genuine Stihl chain. Match the stamp first, and treat the brand list as the seller's list of saws.
When should I stop and ask a dealer instead of ordering?
Ask when the stamp is gone, the title fights the specification, or you cannot count the links. Confirm whether the pitch is 3/8 inch, 3/8 inch P, or 3/8 LP. Hand over tree work, a thrown chain, or a failed brake to a trained person. Do not grind the drive links to force a fit.
