East Germany flag size

Updated: 20 October 2026

You already know you want the hammer, compass and grain wreath, and the search has mixed a desk flag with a house flag. East Germany flag size is a ladder of jobs. A 15 cm flag belongs on a desk. A 150 cm flag belongs on a wall or a light pole. The [DDR flag comparison](/hub/flags/ddr-flag) has the prices and the star lines. This page picks the format for the place it will hang. Products Compared used the amazon.co.uk listings in that set and the shop sizes cited below, updated 19 October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

The size ladder

Start from the place, not from the cheapest row. A desk takes 15 cm by 10 cm at about £6.75, or 21 cm by 14 cm at about £6.95, each with a plastic stick and base, sold for indoor use. A small hang is the 45 cm by 30 cm cord banner at about £6.84. The mesh boat flag is the same rectangle at about £5.81, with plastic rings. A smaller wall takes 90 cm by 60 cm at about £8.95, with two brass eyelets and a stated weight of 50 g. A light pole takes 5 ft by 3 ft, about 150 cm by 90 cm, at about £8.85 or £8.99. Party bunting is a different object. The Flagtex string is titled as 3 m with 10 flags, at about £9.99. Quote 3 m from the title. A car pennant is 15 cm by 10 cm, sold for a mirror, with no clip stated, and it has no base. Cloth and outdoor limits, once the size is chosen, are on the East Germany flag buying guide.

3:5 and the sizes that miss it

The 1959 design is described with width to length at 3:5. Five feet by three feet meets that. The Flag Company listing prints 91.4 cm by 152.4 cm. Flagtex prints 150 cm by 90 cm. Ninety centimetres by 60 cm is deeper: 60 to 90 is 2:3, not 3:5. Desk flags miss 3:5 and it does not matter. They are stands, not flying flags. The single large flag to open first, when 5 ft is the right job, is on the best East Germany flag page.

Boat size is not the German courtesy flag

A 45 cm by 30 cm flag is the half-yard size UK chandlers use for a courtesy flag. Jimmy Green Marine describes that class as 45 cm by 30 cm, in about 145 gsm woven polyester, from about £7. That is the size, not permission to fly the GDR emblem as today’s German courtesy flag. The courtesy flag for Germany now is the plain black-red-gold tricolour. The mesh flag here is a historical design, knitted polyester, listed at 30 g, with two plastic rings. The cord banner at the same size is the land version: 100D polyester, about 15 g, two cords. Rings suit a short nautical hoist of the historical flag. Cords suit a stick on land. Neither replaces a 5 ft flag on a garden pole. Hanging, with black at the top, is on the how to hang a flag with eyelets page.

Which listing matches which job

A crowded desk takes B00UM55NBE, 15 cm by 10 cm. A slightly larger indoor stand takes B00UXQDLCK, 21 cm by 14 cm. Both share a 4.1 from 6,452 reviews, so the stars do not say which size buyers preferred. A hand flag takes B00XZ2HXNM. A short boat hang of the historical emblem takes B076HTQBM6. A smaller wall takes B076HYJR7Q. A light pole takes B001BVCOT2, the listing whose 31 reviews mention this design. Two large flags take the pack, which costs more per flag than a single. A party takes the 3 m bunting. A car mirror takes the pennant only if you accept that the clip is not stated.

Common questions

What is 5 ft by 3 ft in centimetres?
About 152 cm by 91 cm. The Flag Company listing states 91.4 cm by 152.4 cm. Flagtex states 150 cm by 90 cm. Both are the house size here, and the 3:5 proportion. A pole is not included with either listing.
Is 90 cm by 60 cm the same proportion?
No. Ninety by 60 is 3:2, deeper than 3:5. It is still a useful wall flag, at about £8.95, with two brass eyelets and a stated weight of 50 g. Choose it when 150 cm would cover too much wall.
Which size is a desk flag?
Fifteen centimetres by 10 cm, or 21 cm by 14 cm, with a plastic stick and base. In this set they are about £6.75 and £6.95, both described as indoor. AZ FLAG’s UK shop lists the smaller size at £7.75 including VAT, and 1000 Flags at £7.50. They have no eyelets for a halyard.
Is 45 cm by 30 cm a boat flag or a hand flag?
The mesh flag with plastic rings, at about £5.81, is the one described for a boat or a garden. The 100D flag with two cords, at about £6.84, is the hand flag or small hang. The half-yard courtesy size is the same rectangle. It does not make the GDR emblem today’s courtesy flag for Germany.
What is the bunting for?
A party line. The Flagtex title says 10 flags on a 3 m string, ready to hang, at about £9.99. Use the 3 m figure. The 15 cm by 22.5 cm field is not described as the length of the string. There are no reviews on the captured listing.
Will a car pennant work on a pole?
No. The pennant is 15 cm by 10 cm, double sided, at about £7.14, sold for a car mirror. The listing does not state a clip. It has no eyelets and no base. Use it on a mirror, or buy a flag with eyelets if you have a pole.
