Liquid rubber buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have typed liquid rubber into amazon.co.uk because a gutter weeps, a shed looks tired, or a craft project needs a pourable rubber, and the first page treats those as one product. They are not. A cold roof film, a gap coating, a platinum mould silicone, a natural-rubber latex and a small electrical paste all wear the same phrase. The [liquid rubber comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/liquid-rubber) scores the listings. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Four liquids under one name

Start with the job, not the word rubber on the title. A shed that already drains wants a cold roof film at about 1 litre per square metre. A weeping joint or a small caravan patch wants Gorilla’s gap coating, written for gaps up to 6 mm. A mould for resin, wax, plaster or soap wants a 1:1 platinum silicone. Masks want prevulcanised latex, which carries latex proteins. A scuffed cable wants a paste that states a voltage. In this comparison both Gorilla tins are gap coatings, Tapel is polyurethane, STARTSO and WYCOON are mould silicones, Trustleaf is latex, and neither paste states a voltage. A cartridge versus a pourable mould is liquid rubber vs silicone.

Area first, then tin size

Measure the area before you compare stars. Skyguard-type sheets used here quote about 1 litre per square metre, so 1 litre is about 1 m² and 5 litres is about 5 m² before a porous deck asks for more. A quote of 120–180 g per square metre is a thinner paint. Do not use it for Gorilla, which is for gaps up to 6 mm. The 473 ml tin weighs 560 g and names a gutter. The 946 ml tin names gutters, uPVC and small caravan repairs, and bars large areas, flashing, pressurised pipes and a firebox. A thumb-width joint is 473 ml. About 5 m² of felt is a 5 litre trade tin. Bostik Waterstop, not a row here, is two coats of at least 1.5 mm on a damp surface. How thick to brush is on how to apply liquid rubber.

What these listings actually contain

The 473 ml Gorilla tin is about £19.30, with 4.5 from 2,378 reviews shared with the 946 ml listing, including clear-coat comments. Buy the black title. Use 946 ml at about £30.20 only for several local patches. Tapel is about £19.99 and 4.0 from 459 reviews, and some reviews call the film thin, so treat 1 litre as about 1 m². ASTM G154 and EN 1504-2 have no certificate. STARTSO’s 20A is about £24.29 for about 38 oz, mixed 1:1, and the URL does not match the specification block. WYCOON’s 1.1 kg title sits against an item weight of 1.36 kg. BBDINO’s Shore 00-30 will not stop a leak. Trustleaf’s 1 litre title sits against 280 g.

Claims that do not choose the tin

Skyguard’s “up to 10 years” is the maker’s figure at about 1 litre per square metre. It does not transfer to Tapel, Gorilla or a mould kit. Assimilated Regulation 1935/2004 is the UK food-contact duty. Food grade on a title is not that declaration. The pastes print no volts-per-mil figure, unlike Plasti Dip’s own liquid tape, so they are not a cut 230 V repair. Skyguard lists VOC up to 499 g/L and a flash point of 35 °C. Ventilate, and brush rather than spray. A puddle is not fixed by a claim on the tin.

Common questions

Is every tin labelled liquid rubber the same product?
No. On amazon.co.uk the phrase covers a roof film, Gorilla’s gap coating, platinum mould silicone, prevulcanised latex and a small electrical paste. A 1 litre title can be polyurethane, latex or a roof coating. Match the chemistry before you compare the star line.
How many litres do I need for a shed roof?
On a Skyguard-type sheet the rate is about 1 litre per square metre, so about 5 m² wants about 5 litres before a porous second coat. A 1 litre tin is the wrong size. Gorilla’s 473 ml and 946 ml tins are for gaps up to 6 mm, not for that area.
Can Gorilla’s 473 ml tin coat a garage roof?
No. It is a black gap coating with gutter on the surface line. The 946 ml page, which shares the review pool, says the liquid is not for large areas. A garage of several square metres is a trade roof tin at about 1 litre per square metre.
Which tin is for a mould, and which is for a leak?
A leak at a small joint points to Gorilla, 473 ml or 946 ml, inside 6 mm. A mould for resin, wax, plaster or soap points to STARTSO’s 20A kit or WYCOON. BBDINO’s 00-30 silicone is for skin-like props. Latex and the pastes are neither a mould nor a roof.
Is the white 1 litre Tapel tin a thick roof rubber?
The material field says polyurethane. Some reviews brushed a shed or a van. Others called it thin and watery. It is 4.0 from 459 reviews. Borrow the trade figure only as a rough 1 m², and do not treat the EN 1504-2 bullet as a certificate.
When is a 5 litre trade tin the right size?
When the sound area is about 5 m² and the sheet is rated near 1 litre per square metre. Rubber4Roofs listed Skyguard 5 litre at £45 from £54. A separate amazon.co.uk listing, not in this comparison, showed the same brand at £64.99 on 21 October 2026.
