How to mix hydroponic nutrients without sharing charts

Updated: October 2026

The bottles are on the bench, and the amazon.co.uk fields say 1:99, 1:1, 1:50, 1:0, or a dose field that is not a usable figure. Those strings are not one chart. This page is how to mix hydroponic nutrients from this shelf only: water first, then the part that belongs to that brand, then pH if that brand asks for it. It does not pick a winner. Which bottle you should have bought is on the [hydroponic fertiliser buying guide](/hub/fertiliser-soil-and-bark-mulch/hydroponic-fertiliser/sub/hydroponic-fertiliser-buying-guide). Prices and review counts stay on the [hydroponic fertiliser comparison](/hub/fertiliser-soil-and-bark-mulch/hydroponic-fertiliser). It is not a laboratory trial. Water first, then one part at a time

Put the water in the reservoir or the jug before any concentrate. If the bottle is a two-part set, add part A, stir until it has dispersed, then add part B. Do not pour the concentrates into the same jug. Do not borrow millilitres from a CalMag or PK article. Check pH after the nutrients are in the water. A shared order is not a shared dose. The system match is on coco nutrients or recirculating hydroponic nutrients.

Formulex, one bottle

Formulex has no A and B split. Start with water, then add the single solution. Growth Technology's guide says 5 ml per litre for soil or a foliar spray, and 10 ml per litre in hydroponics. A 1 litre jug for a small kit is 10 ml. The Amazon field on the 1 litre listing is 1:99, which is a different string from 10 ml per litre. The bullets say the formula is buffered and that you usually do not adjust pH once it is in solution. They do not print 5.8–6.2. The 5 litre listing does not print a usable ratio. Do not invent a rate from that field. One stored review says the opening could pour better. The 1 litre listing at least prints 1:99.

CANNA, two different charts

CANNA Coco and CANNA Aqua Flores do not share a dose. For Coco, CANNA UK states 40 ml of A and 40 ml of B in 10 litres, A stirred in before B, with pH 5.5–6.2 and EC 1.2–2.3 including the tap water. That is 40 ml of each part in the whole 10 litres, not in every litre. The Amazon field says 1:1, which means the parts are equal. It does not mean 40 ml. One UK reviewer used 5 ml of each per litre. Follow the chart on the pack. Two of the first 50 UK texts found French on the B bottle. Aqua Flores is 30 ml of A and 30 ml of B in 10 litres, A before B, with EC 1.3–2.1 including the tap water and pH 5.2–6.2. The listing has no mixing-ratio field. Do not pour the Coco 40 ml measure into a recirculating bloom tank, and do not pour the 30 ml measure onto coco because both boxes say CANNA.

When the listing is not a dose

Fish-Mix prints 1:0, which is not a usable rate. The BioBizz sheet range cited here is 1–4 ml per litre, and a 2026 header says 2–4 ml per litre. Mix only what you will use immediately. A mix left for two or three days is described as smelling strongly indoors. A spent tank solution can go on garden soil. That is not permission to tip neat concentrate down a drain. Do not invent a dose when the generic 50 ml listing says 1:50 beside a unit count of 1.0 millilitre, when Qzdtue has no ratio and a Chinese-only label, or when Nouri has no ratio and a granules field on a 50 ml title. A CANNA chart does not transfer to Formulex or Fish-Mix. If someone has swallowed concentrate, use NHS 111 or 999. For a jar or LECA, volume and smell are on the hydroponic fertiliser for houseplants page.

Common questions

Why must A and B concentrates stay apart?
The concentrates are meant to meet in dilute water, not in the cap. Combined neat, the parts can drop out of solution. CANNA says add A, stir, then add B. Formulex has no second part: water first, then that single solution.
What does the Formulex 1:99 field mean next to 10 ml per litre?
They are two sources. Amazon prints 1:99 on the 1 litre. Growth Technology prints 10 ml per litre for hydroponics and 5 ml per litre for soil or a foliar spray. Do not paste either figure onto CANNA or Fish-Mix.
Is CANNA Coco 1:1 the same instruction as 40 ml of each per 10 litres?
No. 1:1 says the parts are equal. CANNA UK's instruction is 40 ml of A and 40 ml of B in 10 litres. Writing 40 ml per litre would multiply that chart by ten. A reviewer's 5 ml of each per litre is not a second official rate.
What rate do you use for Aqua Flores when Amazon prints none?
Use 30 ml of A and 30 ml of B in 10 litres, A stirred in before B. The listing has no mixing-ratio field. The maker page also gives pH 5.2–6.2 and EC 1.3–2.1 including the tap water. Do not borrow the Coco 40 ml measure.
What do you do when the dose field is not a usable figure, or it says 1:0?
You do not mix from that field. For Formulex, use 5 ml or 10 ml per litre, matched to soil, foliar, or hydroponics. For Fish-Mix, 1:0 is not a rate: use about 1–4 ml per litre, with the 2026 header at 2–4 ml, and mix only what you will use at once.
When do you check pH: before the nutrients or after?
After the nutrients are in the water, when the chart states a pH band. CANNA's bands for Coco and for Aqua Flores are not the same numbers. Formulex's bullets say you usually do not adjust, and they do not print 5.8–6.2.
