Motorhome inverter 12v to 240v

Updated: October 2026

You are off the hook-up, the kettle is on the hob shelf, and the inverter title says motorhome. A motorhome inverter 12v to 240v in this EDECOA set can run a resistive load from a 12 V leisure battery only for as long as the plate, the cable and the battery current all agree. On a pitch, the bollard does that job instead. This page stays with the kettle and the battery. It is not the waveform essay, and it is not the 24 V lorry decision. The five listings are on the [EDECOA voltage converter comparison](/hub/electrical-equipment/edecoa-voltage-converter). The figures below are listing lines, UK review notes and published rules of thumb. We did not boil a kettle on a driveway.

Hook-up or battery

On a Club pitch the hook-up is 10 A or 16 A at 230 V. A 10 A bollard is about 2,300 W before you share it. A 16 A bollard is about 3,680 W. If you are plugged in, the kettle should use that supply. Do not feed the inverter into the hook-up lead. The Camping and Caravanning Club states that ban. Off the pitch the same kettle is a 12 V problem. At a rule-of-thumb 90 percent efficiency, a 3,000 W load is about 280 A and a 1,000 W kettle is about 93 A. The inverter is the off-pitch tool. It does not make a small leisure battery into a pitch supply.

What the kettle plate has to fit

Match the plate to continuous watts on a 12 V listing. A kettle is minutes of element, not a ten-millisecond peak. The 1,500 W unit is modified sine, £99.00, 4.2 from 216 reviews. The 3,000 W 12 V unit is modified sine, £225.00, 4.1 from 103 reviews, and the title says motorhome. The 1,200 W unit is pure sine, £112.00, and it belongs here only if the load needs pure sine and the plate is under 1,200 W. That motorhome wording does not make the 3,000 W unit pure sine. The 24 V unit is the wrong unit on a 12 V leisure battery, even though the listing also says camper. The check order is on the EDECOA inverter buying guide.

What UK reviews ran

On the 1,500 W unit, some owners ran an 800 W kettle and a travel hairdryer. Several UK texts put usable power nearer 700 W to 1,000 W. Buy this row for a modest resistive plate, not for a 1,500 W hairdryer held on until the battery sags. On the 2,000 W unit the UK texts are an espresso machine and an air fryer, not a timed kettle boil, and there is no star line. On the 3,000 W 12 V unit, a low-wattage kettle and a toaster ran off hook-up, and a 2 kW kettle did not run for some buyers. The 1,200 W unit's three UK texts do not describe a kettle. Do not buy it as the kettle inverter if the element is 2,200 W.

Overnight, lithium and when to stop

Switch the inverter off when the kettle is finished. No-load current on the 1,500 W unit is under 0.5 A, and on both 3,000 W listings under 0.8 A. That will still flatten a leisure battery overnight. A CPAP that must run all night should not depend on an inverter alone. One UK review of the 3,000 W 12 V unit says a voltage-only cut-off is a poor match for LiFePO4, because the voltage stays high while the cells are already low. The listing has no lithium profile. That is one review. If your bank is LiFePO4, use the battery's own low-voltage protection. Stop when the job becomes the van's fixed mains. Fitting the fuse, and knowing when a live socket means you stop, is on how to install an EDECOA inverter.

Common questions

Will one of these run my kettle off the leisure battery?
Only if the plate is resistive, it sits inside the continuous watts you trust after the reviews, and the battery cables can carry the current. Some owners ran an 800 W kettle on the 1,500 W unit and a low-wattage kettle on the 3,000 W 12 V unit.
How many amps does that kettle ask for at 12 V?
Use a rule of thumb and label it as one. At about 90 percent efficiency, amps are watts divided by 12 and then by 0.9.
On a 10 A or 16 A hook-up, do I still need the inverter for the kettle?
No. The Camping and Caravanning Club's pitches supply 10 A or 16 A at 230 V, which is enough for a kettle if the bollard is not already full with other loads.
Which listing is the motorhome one, and is it pure sine?
The 3,000 W 12 V listing is the one whose title says motorhome, at £225.00, modified sine, 4.1 from 103 reviews. It is not pure sine.
Can I leave it on overnight for a fridge or a CPAP?
A boil is a few minutes. The listings state under 0.5 A or under 0.8 A with nothing plugged in, and that drain can flatten a battery by morning. Switch the inverter off after the kettle.
Is a 24 V truck inverter any use in a 12 V motorhome?
No. The 24 V unit is 24 V DC in, £225.99, 4.2 from 66 reviews.
When does the kettle job become a Section 721 installation?
When you stop plugging one appliance into the inverter and start altering the van's fixed 230 V system. A consumer unit, a feed from a site pillar, or a bond from the body to a PME earth is that job, and the IET note on Section 721 says not to make that PME bond.
