SDS plus chisel set: which edge to buy

Updated: 2026-10-23

You already own an SDS plus rotary hammer, and the next job is plaster, a chase, or a run of tiles. The SDS plus chisel set that helps is the one whose edge matches that job, not the box with the most pieces. A point starts a break, a narrow flat cuts a line, a wider spade clears plaster, and a cranked blade gets under ceramic. The [SDS plus chisel comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/sds-plus-chisel) ranks the ten listings we kept. Prices are the shelf prices on those listings, in GBP. Four edges and the job each one does

Bosch Professional UK treats tile removal as its own chisel, not a generic flat. A point starts a hole. It punches a tile instead of sliding under it. A 20 mm flat cuts a chase or a line in render, and it is too narrow to peel a floor. A 40 mm spade moves plaster and soft mortar, then skates on well-stuck ceramic. The cranked tile chisel lets the wide edge sit nearer the floor. In this set that bend is 40 mm at 10 degrees, 75 mm, or 100 mm. Match the edge before the price. How the shank clicks in is on the how to use an SDS plus chisel page.

Width, length, and crank

Twenty millimetres is a line. Forty millimetres is plaster. About 75 to 100 mm gets under a floor tile in this set. Bosch’s 2607019457 at £19.95 stops at a 40 mm spade. Firecore is 75 × 250 mm at 15 degrees, £13.29. Lytool pairs 100 × 280 mm with a 40 mm chisel at £16.14 and does not state the angle. HPMAISON is 75 × 185 mm at 25 degrees, £9.99. WORKPRO is 75 × 165 mm at £11.99, and reviewers call that length close to the floor. Floor technique is on the tile removal page.

One piece or a set

Under £10 buys one edge: Hilka’s 40 mm at £4.84, or the Bosch PRO 20 × 250 mm flat at £7.70. About £13 to £17 buys a wide tile chisel or a small set. Bosch’s three-piece at £19.95 is a point, a 40 mm spade and a 20 mm flat, 4.6 from 3,298 ratings, and no 75 mm crank. Nucraft’s 75 mm piece is 5.0 from six ratings, with no written review.

What to ignore on the listing

SDS plus is 10 mm. SDS max is 18 mm. They do not enter each other’s chucks. A title that only says SDS needs a second look. Hilka’s title says SDS, and one UK review says the piece is SDS plus. If the drill body says SDS max, stop. Lytool’s bullets say 40Cr while the material field says rubber. Keewaki’s bullets say alloy steel and the field says plastic. Use the bullets. WORKPRO and Lytool do not state a crank in degrees. None of these listings prints a joule rating.

Common questions

Do I need a set or one chisel?
Buy a set if you are about to do plaster, a chase and a few tiles with one hammer and you do not already own those edges. Buy one chisel if the missing piece is obvious: a 20 mm flat for chasing, or a 75 mm crank for a floor. The Bosch three-piece at £19.95 covers the first three jobs and stops at 40 mm. A tile floor still needs a wider crank, which that box does not include.
What width lifts floor tiles?
In this set, the blades people use for floors are about 75 mm or 100 mm and cranked. A 40 mm spade can start an edge and will skate or punch once the tile is stuck across its whole back. Firecore is 75 × 250 mm at 15 degrees. Lytool’s wide piece is 100 × 280 mm, with the angle not stated in degrees. Expect the tile to break.
Is 20 mm enough for concrete?
A 20 × 250 mm flat, such as the Bosch PRO at £7.70, is for cutting a line and resizing an opening, not for breaking a slab. Reviewers still report the edge dulling on masonry, including one UK note of it going blunt in about 10 minutes in soft cinder block. A reinforced floor is a different machine.
What does a crank actually change?
The bend lets a wide edge sit nearer the surface while the shank stays in the chuck. You spend less time levering the drill up, which is how straight chisels snap at the neck. Keewaki’s bend is 10 degrees on a 40 mm blade. Firecore states 15 degrees on 75 mm. HPMAISON states 25 degrees on 75 mm. A larger angle is not automatically better on a plastered wall, because a steep edge gouges.
Will SDS on the title mean SDS plus?
Not by itself. SDS plus and SDS max are different shank diameters, and a bare SDS can mean either in a seller’s title. Hilka’s 40 mm chisel is titled SDS, and a reviewer said the piece is SDS plus. Check the drill body. If it says SDS max, none of the plus chisels in this comparison will lock in.
Why do cheap sets say carbide or rubber?
Amazon’s material field often disagrees with the bullets. Rubber, plastic and carbide appear on listings whose own text describes steel. That field is not a lab result. Read the bullet for the steel claim, and still judge the chisel by whether reviewers report a shank snapping in the chuck, which is a real fault on some of the cheaper 40 mm and wide pieces.
