Milwaukee cordless drill buying guide

Updated: 2026-10-23

You are looking at four Milwaukee chuck drills on amazon.co.uk, from £92.99 to £213.00. A Milwaukee cordless drill buying guide has to settle the rail, the hammer collar and the contents line before that price means anything, because an M12 pack will not run an M18 body and a title that says hammer is not a collar you can see. This page is from the Products Compared editorial team, dated 22 October 2026. It uses the kept amazon.co.uk rows and Milwaukee's notes on which packs fit which tools. It is not a lab test. A qualifying Amazon purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Which rail you already own

Start with the packs on the shelf. M12 packs run the 3401-20 at £92.99. M18 packs run the BPD-class bodies and the 2607-20. A charger marked M12-18 can charge either pack. It does not let you click an M18 pack onto the M12 drill. FUEL is the brushless tier on a rail, not a third battery. The M12 row states brushless. The M18 rows here do not. The platform split is Milwaukee M18 or M12 drill.

Hammer collar or drill driver

Brick is a collar, not a word in the title. The M12 bullets do not mention hammer, and a UK review says there is no hammer action. Leave the £92.99 row if the job is a wall plug. The 2607-20 at £124.95 is where the word and the parcel disagree. The table says Hammer Drill. Repeated reviews say a drill driver arrived.

What the box must name

Read the suffix as a hint, then believe the included-components line. A -0, and a US -20 on the 2607-20 and the 3401-20, means a bare tool on the sheet. On the BPD sheet, -402C means two 4.0 Ah packs and a charger. The listing at £184.99 prints M18BPD-0 and two 4.0 Ah batteries in the title, M18BPD-402C in the model field, and Battery Charger only in the included line. Those cells do not agree. The 3401-20 included line does not name a battery. The 2607-20 included line says Drill Attachment. Order 4933443520 at £213.00 is the only kept listing whose included line names a battery and a charger, at 4 Ah with a pack count of 1. A shop sheet that lists two 4.0 Ah packs is not this amazon parcel. How the suffix and the carton disagree is Milwaukee drill body only or kit.

Figures to ignore

Ignore scraped mains cells before you sort by price. The 2607-20 table prints 120 V and 18 A beside an 18-Volt title, and 800 W. The £213 row prints 3,200 W and a drill type of Impact Driver. The M12 table prints 1,550 rps and 12 speeds. Treat rps as the manufacturer 0–1,550 rpm with the wrong unit, and treat 12 as the clutch count. Keep torque in the unit printed on that row. One inch-pound is 0.11298 Nm. Do not average 200 in-lb on the M12 amazon row with the manufacturer page's 350 in-lb. The £184.99 chuck cell says 13 centimetres, while metal capacity is 13 mm. 13 centimetres is the cell to distrust.

Which of the four to open

If you only own M18 packs, open the BPD rows or the 2607-20. The £184.99 title claims two 4.0 Ah packs and fails that claim in the included line. If you only own M12 packs, open the 3401-20. If you own neither rail, cupboard screws point at the M12 body, and you still need an M12 pack and a charger this listing does not name. Occasional brick points at the £213 row. When the tool sparks or smells of burning brushes, stop.

Common questions

Which drill if I only own M18 packs?
Stay on the M18 rows. The 2607-20 at £124.95 is bare, and the BPD listings are the 60 Nm class where the cell is in newton metres. An M18 pack will not run the 3401-20. Confirm a hammer collar if the hole is in brick, because 2607-20 reviews disagree about what arrived, and one £213 review says percussion was missing. Read the £184.99 title against its included line before you assume two 4.0 Ah packs.
Will an M18 pack run the M12 3401-20?
No. Milwaukee keeps M18 packs on M18 tools and M12 packs on M12 tools. The 3401-20 compatible-devices line is Milwaukee M12. A dual charger can charge both rails. It does not make the packs interchangeable. One review says that body only worked with M12 RedLithium CP2.0 packs, so even on the right rail the pack you own can still be the wrong one.
What if the title says hammer and the reviews do not?
Believe the collar in your hand before the title. On the 2607-20 the table says Hammer Drill and repeated reviews say a drill driver arrived. On the M12 row the bullets do not mention hammer, and a UK review says there is none. A masonry bit in a drill-driver chuck is the wrong workaround.
Why does one row say 120 volts?
The 2607-20 table prints 120 V and 18 A next to an 18-Volt title. That reads as a scraped mains cell, in the same way the £213 row prints 3,200 W. UK mains are 230 V, and none of these rows states a BS 1363 plug. Do not treat 800 W or 3,200 W as the motor.
When is masonry an SDS job instead of a combi?
When the hole is repeated concrete, when you cannot trace cables or pipes, or when you cannot control silica dust. A combi collar, where the tool has one, is occasional masonry with a carbide bit. The 2607-20 manual keeps water off that bit and keeps it out of reinforcing bar. At work, PUWER applies. The hand-arm action value is 2.5 m/s² A(8) and the limit is 5 m/s² A(8). A declared vibration figure is not that daily dose.
