Best utility knife blades

Updated: October 2026

You want one pack, and the star rows are shouting at each other. The best utility knife blades in this set are the ones whose count, fit, and review texts all describe blades, for a job you can name. That is a narrower claim than a winner for every knife in the UK. The [utility knife blades comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/utility-knife-blades) holds the full table. This page says who should buy which row, and who should leave it. Prices are amazon.co.uk figures in GBP from the listings checked on 16 October 2026. Peter F. did not run a lab test. Our top picks

On this page

Best for a trapezoid knife you already own

If the knife in the drawer is a retractable trapezoid knife, the top pick here is Bosch Professional 1600A01V3J, £15.55, 50 blades, 4.7 from 598. The bullets say the dispenser slides out one blade or five and stores used blades. The steel line is the limit: the bullets say S2 CVM and the material cell says stainless. Skip it if your knife is an 18 mm or 25 mm snap-off body. Skip it for carpet. A trapezoid is the wrong pull cut, and a Stanley reviewer in this set found carpet tiles dulled a trapezoid quickly. Hook and concave packs are a different job, covered on utility knife blades for carpet and vinyl.

When the Stanley 1992 listing is enough

The Stanley listing B0CFX6T3FM at £10.86 is the familiar two-point shape, and it has the largest review file that is actually about blades: 4.7 from 10,011, with the first 50 describing edges and a dispenser. The title says a pack of 3 and regular duty. The model cell says 2pk. The included cell says a heavy-duty 10-pack. Stainless and high carbon steel are both printed. Because the count is not usable, this row is not the best value. It is enough when you want the Stanley pattern, you will count the blades on the day they arrive, and you are cutting card and general sheet rather than carpet tile. How the two families differ is on snap-off or trapezoid utility blade.

Packs that look best and are not

Milwaukee 48-22-1950 at £10 shows 4.7 from 1,230 and a 50-piece trimming-blade claim. The first 50 texts are mostly locking pliers, grips, or drills. The page does not name a knife, and the weight cell prints 4.54 g beside 50 blades. The two OX snap-off packs share 4.6 from 114, and the texts describe the knives, including the same corpus as knife listing B0FPSHHCJH. OX-P220710 at £8.57 is the best value when you already own a 25 mm snap-off knife, because the title and the fit bullet agree, with 7 segments and a dispenser. The format checklist is the utility knife blades buying guide.

What sits outside this set

Stanley's FatMax induction blades are a different product. Screwfix lists a 100-pack at £28.99 including VAT. That figure is not a score you can import. HSE sheet PPS12 makes a narrower point that does belong here: a blunt knife is dangerous because it needs more force. "Best" on this page means a pack you can identify, for one named job, with review texts that match the blades. It does not mean a laboratory ranking, or a single pack for carpet, vinyl, and cardboard.

Common questions

Which pack is the top pick if I already own a trapezoid knife?
Bosch 1600A01V3J at £15.55, 50 trapezoid blades, 4.7 from 598. The dispenser stores used blades, and the sampled reviews describe that case. The steel cells disagree, S2 CVM against stainless, so the pick is the count and the review file, not a settled alloy. It is the wrong pack for a snap-off knife.
Why not the Milwaukee pack with 1,230 reviews?
Because those reviews are mostly not about blades. The first 50 texts describe locking pliers and other Milwaukee tools. The listing does not name a knife. The UK page prints China and stainless steel, not the US carbide claims. £10 for a claimed 50 is only useful after you have seen the profile.
Is the Stanley listing the best value at £10.86?
No. The shape is the familiar 1992 trapezoid, and the review texts are about blades, but the pack count is printed as 3, as 2pk, and as 10. A value price needs a count you can divide. Until you open the box, £10.86 is a shelf price only.
When is the Bosch dispenser the better buy?
When you will use a trapezoid knife often enough to keep 50 spares and you want spent blades in the case rather than loose. At about 31p a blade it costs more per edge than a muddled Stanley sum would suggest, and less uncertainty. Skip it if the case size bothers you: a few reviews say it is larger than they wanted.
Are OX snap-off blades the best for cardboard?
Only if the knife is already a snap-off knife of that width. Card and tape are the usual snap-off job, with one fresh segment at a time. The shared 4.6 from 114 does not prove the edge. The 25 mm pack at £8.57 is the one whose width line agrees. The £5.39 pack also says 25 mm in two bullets.
Is FatMax in this comparison?
No. Stanley's 35 kg snap-resistance line and the comparison with a 1992 blade are on Stanley's own FatMax page. Screwfix sells a 100-pack at £28.99 including VAT. Neither figure scores the nine listings here. Do not treat that claim as a result for the £10.86 Stanley row.
