Best laminate underlay

Updated: 23 October 2026

You want a named roll for click laminate or floating wood, and shops that rank best laminate underlay often sell a rubber sheet we did not save. Inside this set the 5 mm gold roll has the printed decibel, and the 15 m² silver roll is the lowest price per stated square metre. The heating sheet is a different job. The [underlay comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/underlay) lists the five amazon.co.uk files from 19 October 2026, with scores and prices in GBP. We did not run a laboratory test. Best is a condition, not a crown

Retailer lists for the best underlay for laminate flooring often crown Duralay Silentfloor Gold, Timbermate Excel, or a Royale Sonic Gold 5 mm roll at £29.50 with 22 dB and 0.9 tog on that other listing. Royale is not AcuStick. Do not copy 22 dB or 0.9 tog onto the file we saved. None of these five files print compressive strength, so best means the roll matches your floor, the thickness the board maker allows, and the line that is printed. The order of those checks is on the laminate underlay buying guide.

When the 5 mm gold roll is the one to open

AcuStick Sonic Gold, part HU-XI-164, is a 5 mm gold-foil roll stated as 1 m by 15 m, 3 kg, at £29.50, about £1.97 per stated square metre. Across 682 amazon.co.uk reviews the line is 4.5. The bullets print sound absorption of 24 dB and name no test. One UK review says that roll was under 12 square metres and left a 3 m by 4 m room about 40 cm short. Another says the sheet crinkles, and a third says it tears while the wood goes down. Barrier Pro X is named for the seams and is not in the box. A board that already has a pad does not get a second sheet.

When the 15 m² silver roll is the better spend

The FloorPro 3 mm silver roll, stated 15 m² at 1 m by 15 m, was £19.88, about £1.33 per stated square metre, the lowest rate in this set. Across 337 reviews the line is 4.6, and the sampled texts do not describe tears. Reviews say the foil faces the floor on concrete, and one calls the foil overlap fiddly, so a flap may be there even though the bullet does not print its width. The catalogue material field says Aluminum and the dimension field prints a 10 mm cube, which do not describe a 3 mm foam roll. You still buy Barrier Pro X separately. There is no decibel and no tog.

The other three

Grandismo is the only roll with a printed thermal figure, tog 0.35, on a stated 10 m² at £33.50, about £3.35 per stated square metre. Thickness is not printed. Several reviews say it tears if you kneel on it or pull it, and one says it is not rigid enough to protect a heating mat. Another says heat comes through an electric mat. Open it only when the system allows a thin sheet with that tog. Makers who forbid any underlay on the mat are on the underlay for underfloor heating page. FloorPro Smoothfit silver, 3 mm and 7.5 m², was £16.50, about £2.20 per stated square metre, with no Barrier Pro X line in that file. The 2 mm white roll was £14.50, and a torn arrival is in the reviews, so that shelf price is not the best value.

Common questions

Which roll is the best all-rounder in this set?
There isn’t one roll that covers a cold slab, a heated mat, and a tiny room at the same price. If the floor is unheated and the boards allow 5 mm, AcuStick is the top pick, the only foam here with 5 mm and a printed 24 dB line. If 3 mm is allowed and you want 15 m² at the lowest rate, FloorPro at £19.88 is the best value. If the floor is heated, Grandismo is the only tog.
Who should buy the 5 mm gold roll?
Buy AcuStick when you are laying wood or laminate on an unheated floor, the board maker allows 5 mm, and you want the printed decibel even though no test is named. Measure the stated 15 m², because one review reported a short roll, and buy seam tape, because Barrier Pro X is not in the box. Leave it if you need a tog or a named acoustic test.
Who should buy the £19.88 FloorPro roll instead?
Buy the 15 m² FloorPro 3 mm roll when the maker allows 3 mm, you want the lowest price per stated square metre in this set, and you can live without a decibel. The star line is 4.6 from 337, and the sampled reviews do not describe tears. Foil-down on concrete is something reviewers say, not a sentence in the bullets. You still need tape. Skip it for underfloor heating, because this file prints no tog.
When is Grandismo the only relevant one?
Grandismo is the relevant file when the floor has heating and you need a printed tog. It says 0.35 tog and about 17 dB, with no thickness and no method. It is not a substitute for the 3 mm or 5 mm foil foams on a cold slab, and it is not a rubber underlay from a shop’s best-of list. Whether your mat maker allows any sheet on top is a separate instruction.
Is the 2 mm white roll a bargain?
The 2 mm FloorPro roll has the lowest shelf price in the set, £14.50 for a stated 7.5 m², about £1.93 per stated square metre. That is not the best value here. One roll arrived torn and was thrown away, and another review says the sheet tears easily. If you can use 3 mm, the 15 m² silver roll is the cleaner spend. A badge is not a laboratory pass.
