Flue tape buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are about to buy one roll of aluminium foil tape, and the twelve amazon.co.uk listings in this set do not share one width, one length, one micron or one temperature. This flue tape buying guide is the order to use before you compare cards: the job, one printed temperature, a width and length that agree, a micron if the page prints one, then a price per metre in GBP. The [flue tape comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/flue-tape) holds the twelve products, the star lines and the shelf prices. Listings and UK review notes were read on 21 October 2026. Adhesion was not lab-tested. A qualifying amazon.co.uk purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What flue tape means on this page

Every saved roll is soft single-sided aluminium foil with a liner. Only the 3M 2113NA title uses the words flue tape and states 600 °F, on about 38 mm by 4.6 m. Trade catalogues use the same name for a datasheet roll, sometimes with a BS 476 Class 0 surface claim. Class 0 is a surface test, not a BS EN 1443 or BS EN 1856 chimney class, and it is absent from these twelve listings. Stove rope and stove-glass seal appeared in the amazon.co.uk results and are not in this comparison. Approved Document J names rope and fire cement, or proprietary jointing, for a connecting fluepipe. A gas flue is not a width decision. That limit is on boiler flue tape.

Width and length

BuildWiz uses about 50 mm for a patch or a penetration, and 75 mm or 100 mm for a board joint, because 50 mm leaves a narrow land each side of a crack. Gladiator is 50 mm by 10 m. ArmaKit is 48 mm by 10 m. The BOMEI three-pack is three rolls of 50 mm by 50 m, and BOMEI also lists 75 mm, 100 mm and 150 mm by 50 m. Ealyder is 75 mm by 59.4 m. The 300 mm BOMEI row is titled 55 yards, the size field says 1,650.92 m, and the unit count says 1.0 metre. Bergmis agrees on 50 mm by 50 m, then splits temperature and thickness. Who the score picks is on best flue tape.

Temperature and foil thickness

Buy one figure, not a pile of them. Gladiator states 120 °C and 30 micron. ArmaKit states 50 micron and no degrees, even though a bullet says heat resistant. Ealyder states neither. The BOMEI rows that agree state −20 °C to 180 °C, with no micron and no named standard. The 3M listing states 600 °F. Bergmis bullets say −30 °C to 120 °C, while other fields say 180 °C and 10 °C, and thickness appears as both 23 micron and 50 micron. Advance Tapes AT500, which is not an ASIN here, publishes about −40 °C to 110 °C and 40 micron. A marketplace 180 °C with no standard is not that datasheet. Most long rolls print no micron, so thin in a review cannot be checked against a number.

Price only after the length is one number

On one agreed length, the 50 mm three-pack is about £0.13 a metre and about £2.67 a square metre. Gladiator is about £0.60 a metre, about £11.90 a square metre. The 3M roll is about £2.61 a metre because 4.6 m at £11.94 is a short patch. Do not average a price for the 300 mm row. Those lengths contradict each other. ArmaKit at £3.45 is the lowest shelf price and still only 10 m. Pressing the strip is on how to apply aluminium foil tape.

Common questions

Is flue tape the same as aluminium foil tape?
On this page, yes, with a limit. Eleven of the twelve listings are soft aluminium foil for ducts and insulation, and one short 3M roll is titled flue tape. Trade flue tape with a Class 0 datasheet, and stove rope, are different products. None of these ASINs shows a BS EN 1443 or BS EN 1856 class. If the job is a gas flue joint, foil and rope are both the wrong DIY.
What width should you buy for a duct seam or a PIR joint?
About 50 mm covers a patch, a pipe wrap or a narrow seam. About 75 mm or 100 mm covers a board joint with more foil each side of the crack. This set also includes 150 mm by 50 m, which is a wide seam with only 39 reviews, and 25 mm, which is a narrow wrap with a pack-count conflict. Match the width to the crack before you match the brand.
Is 10 m enough, or do you need about 50 m?
Ten metres is Gladiator or ArmaKit: a short duct, a radiator foil patch, or a few board joints. About 50 m is a loft, a camper or a long duct, which is the BOMEI 50 m rolls or the Ealyder 59.4 m roll. Buying three 10 m rolls to imitate a 50 m job usually costs more per metre than one agreed long roll.
Can you trust 180 °C or 600 °F as a stove or boiler rating?
No. BOMEI states −20 °C to 180 °C with no standard. The 3M page states 600 °F, and a Celsius conversion is arithmetic, not a chimney test. UK reviews that tried the 3M roll on a wood-burner pipe were a poor match. A stove joint is rope and fire cement, or the manufacturer's clip, fitted by the right registered person.
Why do two fields on one listing disagree?
Marketplace pages reuse a template. Bergmis puts −30 °C to 120 °C in the bullets and 180 °C and 10 °C in other fields, and it prints both 23 and 50 micron. The 3M 1.5 inch thickness is the width filed in the wrong box. When two fields disagree, quote neither figure as if you had measured it. Use the fields that repeat the same number, or walk away.
