Best expanded metal

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have five amazon.co.uk listings in this set and you want one of them to be the best expanded metal. It will not be. Best, on this page, means the printed form matches the job you actually have. None of the five is the best expanded metal in the UK, and a single 5.0 from one review is not a top pick. The [expanded metal comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/expanded-metal) holds the scores and the prices. Those scores read what each listing prints. They are not a lab rank. Peter F. checked the captures on 21 October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Our top picks

On this page

Best means best fit, not a UK winner

Mill pages also sell a printed diamond, often cut to length. F H Brundle’s galvanised sheets print mesh size and strand on a 1250 by 2500 mm piece. Those prices are often ex VAT, not amazon.co.uk shelf prices. Set beside these five, that is a specified sheet against an offcut. The same search can say expanded and perforated, or sell round holes. There is no UK magazine test of these five. A coil is not a vent, and a square with no pitch is not a framed guard. The specification order is the expanded metal buying guide.

The two coils

FN118 is a galvanised coil, 63 mm by 20 m, with no star line and no pitch. The bullets claim less cracking. They do not say how to bed the strip. Use it for a narrow non-structural joint when you already have the cover and the lap. Skip it for a screen or a hole size. FN119 is 100 mm by 20 m, with the same gaps, and the weight line says both 1.28 kg and 1.27 kg. Use it when 63 mm is too narrow. Skip it on a damp external leaf, because it does not say stainless. A lower coil price is not best value for a vent. Bedding is on the expanded metal brick reinforcement page.

The three sheets

PandaHall is two sheets. The bullets say 304 stainless, the title also says perforated, and no opening is printed. The only review is from Italy on 31 August 2026, so a 5.0 is not a top pick. Buy it only if you can check the hole pattern. National Hardware is plain steel, 12 by 12 inches, with 4.3 from 670 reviews. The title says three pieces and the unit count is 1.0. Those one-piece reviews are not tagged United Kingdom. Coat the steel. If the parcel does not match the description, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 is the route. Gisafai is four flat black sheets with openings about 50 by 23 mm, and 4.4 from 45 reviews in a United States sample. It is the only listing that prints both a flat profile and an opening. Deburr the edges. It is not a certified guard.

When to leave this set

Leave the set for a framed guard, a tested walkway, or a damp leaf that needs a stainless grade on the label. None of these pages prints that. Then match the form. A coil, if the joint is non-structural and the bedding is already chosen. PandaHall, only if an uncertain hole is acceptable. National Hardware, only after the pack count is clear and a coating is part of the job. Gisafai, if you need a printed opening and you will treat the edges as sharp. There is no top pick across the five that survives a change of job.

Common questions

Is the 5.0 rating the best sheet?
The 5.0 is one review, from Italy, on 31 August 2026, on the PH PandaHall listing. There is no UK-tagged review on that capture. The title says both expanded metal and perforated sheet, and no pitch is printed. One complimentary review does not settle the making method and does not make the pack a top pick. Check the hole pattern yourself if you still order it.
Are the AB Tools coils the best value because they cost less?
They are 20 metre coils, 63 mm and 100 mm wide, not a sheet that beats another sheet on the same job. A 300 mm square is a different unit. The lower shelf price is not best value for a vent, a frame, or a guard. It is a low price for a narrow galvanised strip with no star line and no printed pitch.
Why is there no top pick?
There is no laboratory test of these listings, and they do not share a form. A coil, an unsettled stainless offcut, a plain-steel square with a pack-count conflict, and a four-piece flat sheet answer different jobs. A top pick would pretend those jobs were one product. The scores do not award a UK-wide winner.
Does a high review count make the National Hardware sheet the best?
The 4.3 from 670 reviews is the largest count in the set, and it is a real amazon.co.uk line. It does not override a 3 pack title against a unit count of 1.0. That review sample was not tagged United Kingdom, so it is not proof of what a UK parcel contains. Plain steel still needs a coating.
What should I buy if I need a full framed guard?
Leave this set. A loose square is not a machine guard. Trade sheets print a pattern, a strand, and a full size such as 2440 by 1220 mm, and a guard is then framed and fixed. Gisafai’s printed opening helps you see the hole. It does not certify the sheet as a guard.
