Best automatic air vent

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have a gurgling towel rail or a loft pipe that keeps collecting air, and the amazon.co.uk sort by stars puts a 4.7 from 31 reviews above a 4.5 from 1,255. Those are not the same kind of evidence. This page names a best automatic air vent only inside that limit: a published product code, a connection you can match, and a review count large enough to show the usual faults. The rows, prices and scores sit on the [automatic air vent comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/automatic-air-vent). Products Compared used amazon.co.uk listings from 19 October 2026 and the makers' sheets. We did not run a lab test. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What best means here

Best on this page means the strongest documented choice for a stated joint, not the highest star average in the file. The Flamco Flexvent 27750 has 4.5 from 1,255 ratings at about £16.79, a 3/8 inch thread, a float, and a shut-off in the box. The Altecnic Robocal 502649 has 4.5 from 116 ratings at about £10.69 and a 15 mm compression nut, with 6 bar venting and 10 bar working on the listing. Both have a maker's code you can check outside Amazon. The cylinder at 4.7 from 31, and the HTS pattern part at 4.7 from 11, score higher stars with far less written experience. Dividing the editorial score by the shelf price puts the Altecnic ahead of the Flamco, which is why it is the best value on 15 mm pipe.

Top pick for a 3/8 inch port

The top pick is the Flamco Flexvent 27750 when the port you are replacing is 3/8 inch and you want the shut-off included. At about £16.79 it is the dearest vent in the set. Reviewers put it on towel-rail high points, loft primaries, manifolds and air-separator outlets. Several describe air leaving on refill, then no further bleeding on that run. The catalogue chapter lists 27750 as the Flexvent with that shut-off. It is the wrong buy if your pipe is 15 mm compression or the port is 1/2 inch. One reviewer thought the delivered thread was 1/2 inch while the title says 3/8 inch. One buyer said one of six leaked, and another arrived with the red cap missing. The printed weight of 10 g is not a credible mass for this brass body. If you need the size lesson, use the automatic air vent buying guide.

Best value on 15 mm pipe

The best value is the Altecnic Robocal 502649 when the pipe is 15 mm compression and you can add your own isolator if you want one. At about £10.69, with 4.5 from 116 ratings, reviewers fit it in lofts and in place of leaking plastic vents. The maker's sheet names 502649 as the 15 mm code. A merchant page cites WRAS 2012359 for the Robocal. That number is not printed on the amazon.co.uk listing in this capture. The cap has to be loosened slightly or the vent will not pass air. The pack has no manual. No shut-off is stated. Temperature is on the data sheet, up to 115 °C with glycol to 30 percent, and not in the Amazon bullets. It will not screw into a 3/8 inch port.

Listings to skip for this question

Skip the unbranded cylinder at about £8.84 if you came here for a best buy. It is 4.7 from 31 ratings, the reviews are a sentence each, and the listing disagrees with itself on 3/8 inch versus 1/2 inch. Skip the HTS part at about £11.50 unless your Vaillant wants AAV 104521 and an engineer is fitting it inside the case. Skip the ERGAOBOY pair at about £10.49. The only rating is 1.0, and that UK review says the valve does not vent automatically and then lets water out. Skip the PlumbEZ if you wanted the Altecnic's review base: 3.4 from four ratings, and one UK text says the float was not assembled. Call an engineer when the drip is inside the boiler case.

Common questions

Which listing is the top pick, and for whom?
The Flamco Flexvent 27750, at about £16.79 with 4.5 from 1,255 ratings, is the top pick when you have a 3/8 inch port and want a shut-off in the box. It is the wrong vent for 15 mm compression. Reviewers use it on towel rails, manifolds and loft pipe, and a minority report a leak or a missing cap, so you still inspect it before you fill.
Which is the best value if I have 15 mm pipe?
The Altecnic Robocal 502649 at about £10.69, with 4.5 from 116 ratings. The listing states 6 bar venting and 10 bar working pressure. You loosen the cap so it can vent, and you add your own isolator if you want to service it later without a drain. It is not the boiler-case part.
Why not the 4.7-star cylinder or the HTS part?
The cylinder's 4.7 comes from 31 short reviews, and the page prints both 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch. The HTS 4.7 comes from 11 short reviews of a Vaillant-pattern AAV 104521 with no thread and no GC number. Star averages that thin do not outweigh a named code and a four-figure review count.
Does the Flamco fit 15 mm compression?
No. The 27750 in this set is a 3/8 inch male float vent with a shut-off. A 15 mm compression high point is the Altecnic 502649, or the cheaper Wärmer cylinder if you accept no printed pressure. Do not force the Flamco thread into a compression nut.
Is the Altecnic WRAS number on the Amazon page?
Not in this capture. A merchant page cites WRAS 2012359 for the Robocal. The amazon.co.uk listing we used does not print that number. If the approval is part of your specification, take it from the document for code 502649, not from a generic brass vent beside it.
Who should buy neither and call an engineer?
Call an engineer if the failed vent is inside a gas boiler case, if you cannot drain and refill, or if you still cannot tell 15 mm from 3/8 inch or 1/2 inch on the old fitting. A new float vent will not repair a leaking heat exchanger or a pressure vessel that will not hold. Landlords should not start a drain on a system they are not responsible for refilling.
