1200 mm tile cutter vs wet saw

Updated: October 2026

You are choosing how to cut a long floor tile in a UK kitchen or bathroom: a manual score and snap on a bed about 1200 mm long, or a wet saw with water and a blade. A 1200 mm tile cutter vs a wet saw is a choice of tool class. This page does not name a saw, a blade, or a saw price, because no wet-saw ASIN is in this set. The ten cutter listings are on the [1200 mm tile cutter comparison](/hub/cutting-tools/tile-cutter-1200mm). Use them as examples of a limit, not as a brand table of saws.

What a snap does

A snap cutter scores with a wheel and breaks the tile on a breaker. You get a straight break along one score, without a tub of water. The Faithfull technical cell says AC on a manual title, so do not shop for it as a mains saw. Full-plank snap cutters here are about £120–£240 on amazon.co.uk on 15 October 2026. The VEVOR at £29.99 is a different build. The tonchean at £66.49 is a T-bar. The RUBI TX-1250 MAX, outside this set, was £634.80 including VAT at Toucan Tools. Length and thickness are on the 1200 mm tile cutter buying guide.

The cuts a snap listing does not cover

A wet saw is the tool for a mitre, a notch, an L-cut, and for tile thicker than the printed band. The ROJOO models and the VEVOR print 6–15 mm. The TILER and the Faithfull print up to 16 mm. Both TOPWAY listings print no thickness. A 20 mm structured porcelain is outside those lines. The Faithfull prints 850 mm on the diagonal against 1200 mm straight. An 800 mm square is about 1131 mm corner to corner, so it misses 850 mm. One TILER UK review says a 600 mm Montolit could not take 1200 mm tiles, so those cuts were ground.

Dust, water, and who is employing someone

HSE's sheet CIS36 pushes employers toward less dusty methods. The silica limit cited for dry cut-off sawing is 0.1 mg/m³ over 8 hours. A score is the quieter step. Dry grinding after a bad snap is the dusty one. A wet saw is the direction HSE points for that cutting. Porcelain already outside the snap is on the porcelain page.

Length still applies to both tools

A wet saw still has to be long enough for the cut. A short saw does not replace a 1200 mm bed. If the straight cut fits the printed bed and the thickness, the snap is the tool. Snap cutters here are about 14–24 kg. The Health and Safety Executive sets no kilogram limit for carrying them. Use the manual cutter for a straight snap inside the printed length and thickness. Use a wet saw for a mitre, a notch or a tile outside that band, and only a saw that can reach the cut.

Snap inside the band, saw outside it

Use the manual cutter for a straight score and snap inside the printed length and thickness. Use a wet saw for a mitre, a notch, an L, or a tile the listing's band does not cover, and only if that saw is long enough. No wet saw was tested against these cutters, and this page does not invent a saw price. Limits are the amazon.co.uk listings from 15 October 2026. Common questions

When is the manual 1200 mm cutter the right tool?
Use it for a straight score and snap inside the printed length and thickness, with the ends supported. In this set that is a bed around 1200 mm, 6–15 mm on the ROJOO and VEVOR pages, or up to 16 mm on the TILER and Faithfull. The TOPWAY pages print no thickness. The Faithfull cell that says AC conflicts with a manual title, so it is not a mains saw.
When is a wet saw the right tool?
Use a wet saw for a mitre, a notch, an L-cut, or a tile thicker or more textured than the printed band. A 20 mm structured porcelain is outside the 6–15 mm and 16 mm lines in this file. This page cannot name a saw, a blade or a price, because no wet-saw listing was in the set. Water and a blade do not remove the need for a machine long enough for the cut.
Can a short wet saw replace a 1200 mm bed?
No. A short saw does not become a 1200 mm cutter because it uses water. One TILER UK review says a 600 mm Montolit could not take 1200 mm tiles, so those cuts were ground. If the straight plank is 1200 mm and the snap bed prints that length, the snap can take the straight cut. If the saw is shorter than the plank, you have not replaced the bed.
Does a snap cutter remove silica dust?
The score is the quiet step. Dry grinding after a bad snap is the dusty one. HSE CIS36 pushes employers toward less dusty methods, and the silica limit cited for dry cut-off sawing is 0.1 mg/m³ over 8 hours. A successful snap does not make later grinding dust-free. A wet saw is the less-dusty direction for that cutting. It is not a product in this comparison.
Is the Faithfull a mains saw because the cell says AC?
No. The Faithfull FAITLC1200 technical cell says AC. The title and the bullets describe a manual cutter with a breaker, at 1200 mm straight and 850 mm on the diagonal. Treat the AC cell as a listing conflict. Shop for it as a hand tool. It does not become a wet saw because one field is wrong.
Where does the RUBI TX-1250 MAX price fit?
It is a manual trade cutter, not a wet saw. On 15 October 2026 Toucan Tools listed the RUBI TX-1250 MAX at £634.80 including VAT, at 125 cm and 3–21 mm. It is not an ASIN here. Its figures do not transfer to these listings. The snap cutters in this file are about £120–£240. None of those prices is a wet-saw price.
